We continue our visit with Pastor Austin Huggins of Mt. Zion Bible Church in Pensacola, Florida. When we left off, Austin was facing a decision that would change everything. As a young man preparing to leave the Navy, he had been offered a prestigious position in another part of the country. He was settled into a life with his live-in girlfriend, and his future seemed mapped out. But then he found himself back in Florida, sitting at his mother’s bedside as she faced a life-threatening operation. In that moment, Austin had to confront not only what came next for his mother, but also the direction his own life would take.

“I was a former submarine Sailer in the Navy. And, before that as a child I had spent time in church in a difficult home life. I had a raging alcoholic stepfather and life was difficult…”

Before entering the ministry, Austin traveled a winding path—from serving in the U.S. Navy aboard nuclear submarines, to facing deep despair and personal challenges.
