Sermon: Psalm 19 | God Reveals and Instructs

1. God reveals Himself through what He has created.
   • The heavens communicate God’s glory to us.
   • The sun is a part of God's creation that teaches us about Him.
   • Creation testifies to its Creator.
     • We call this display “natural revelation” or “general revelation.”
     • We can learn certain things about God by looking at the world around us.
     • We can learn about the problems of the world by observing the world around us.
     • God / אֵל / El
     • T=the Lord / יְהוָה / Yahweh
2. God reveals Himself as the LORD through His words.
   • We can love God's instructions because we are God's people.
   • God's words are a blessing to His people.
   • God's instruction is superior to other valuable things.
3. Following God's Word brings reward.
   • Pray that God would shine the blazing sunlight of His glory into our lives.
   • Pray that God would preserve us from falling into sinful patterns.
   • Pray that our words, thoughts, and actions would be pleasing and acceptable to the LORD.
4. God is our Rock and Redeemer.
   • God is our Rock.
   • God is our Redeemer.
   • Jesus Christ is God in human flesh.

Sermon: Psalm 1 | Two Ways to Live

1. Psalm 1 is an introduction to the rest of the book of Psalms.
2. Psalm 1 instructs us through the use of contrast.
3. The blessed person develops a pattern of omitting evil behaviours while committing good behaviours.
   • What the righteous person doesn’t do
     1. Walk in the counsel of the wicked
     2. Stand in the way of sinners
     3. Sit in the seat of scoffers
   • What the righteous person does
     1. Delight in the law of the Lord
     2. Meditate on the law day and night
4. The outcomes of a righteous life and an evil life are radically contrasted.
   • The righteous person is like a fruitful tree
   • The wicked person is like windblown chaff
5. The consequences of these two paths is clear.
   • The wicked will not stand in the judgment.
   • For the Lord knows the way of the righteous.

3. David celebrates that God has answered his prayer and bestowed blessings on him.
4. David seeks God’s blessings in order to thrive.

Psalm 61 and Us

1. Often we are faint of heart.
2. God is our protection.
3. Jesus is the king who fulfills David’s prayer.

When hardships come, remember God’s covenant faithfulness.

1. Run to God, not away from Him.
2. Move toward God’s people, not away from them.
3. Remember that a better day is coming.

Sermon: Mountaintop Moments

1. Why go to a mountain? Mountains are often a place of spiritual encounter.
2. Why pray? “not my will, but yours be done"
3. Why pray all night? God uses the actions of people to carry out His plans.
4. Why choose twelve? Jesus the leader of the Restored Israel, the Israel that would truly be a blessing to all the nations.
5. Why name them apostles? ἀποστόλους, “the ones who are sent out”
6. Why come down from the mountain? Being called an apostle is more than a title or a feeling.
7. Why lift up His eyes to His disciples? The calling that the apostles and disciples have received will be put to the test.
