How important is self-esteem for dyslexics?
Yep, you said it, ‘It's essential!’
So important, in fact, I believe it’s the number one reason why people with dyslexia think it’s a disability that stops them in there life.
People with higher self-esteem tend to be happier and happier people tend to look for more things to make them happy and less likely to do something about it.
I know it’s more complex than that!
Like so many of us dyslexics, I have experienced having no self-esteem and crippling confidence, and the effect it has on my life is oppilating. My face used to hurt because I never used any of the muscles when anyone was close or looked in my direction, I would feel frozen with butterflies in my tummy.
One day I had enough, and in the space of a month, someone in school said to me,
‘Who are you and what had you done with Theo?’
I had become so confident!
