What if the behavior you’re trying to change isn’t really the problem?
Kristin begins with a simple intention: stop relying on electronics to fall asleep and regain her ability to read.
But as we become curious about what the behavior has been doing for her, something deeper emerges.
The iPad had become more than a nighttime habit. During a painful season, it became a way to distract herself from loneliness and disconnection.
As Kristin gets clearer about what she wants instead, the intention shifts toward something more meaningful:
Contentment. Peace. Connection with God.
You’ll hear how I use the 4Rs of the Kokoro Repatterning Method™: Recognize, Remove, Replace, and Reimagine to give the session structure while staying open to what Kristin’s own mind reveals.
Then something neither of us planned happens.
Kristin encounters the version of herself who used to curl up at night with her iPad, the lonely, hurting woman she thought belonged to the past.
When she imagines bringing that version of herself forward, she realizes she is afraid to leave her behind again.
Instead of trying to eliminate that part, Kristin discovers another possibility: bringing her with her, holding her with compassion, and allowing both the light and shadow parts of herself to belong.
Kristin is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and a temple worker, so the spiritual language in this session reflects her beliefs. In private Kokoro work, I meet clients within their own spiritual framework.
This is also not a hypnosis session. Although my hypnotherapy training informs my understanding of the mind, this session is built around intention, attention, curiosity, imagination, and creating space to notice what we could not see before.
As you listen, notice the intention, the questions, where curiosity takes us, and what Kristin discovers for herself.
Sometimes healing is not about leaving an old part of yourself behind. It is about learning how to bring her with you.
After the SessionKristin shared that she began using the visualization of connecting with the center of the universe and the center of the earth every night. She described it as peaceful and comforting and said it helps her fall asleep.
She is also practicing something equally important: not shaming herself when she still watches something at night, but staying connected to the light of God and responding to herself with greater compassion.

What if the thing exhausting you isn’t only the workload, but the amount of internal energy you’re spending while carrying it?
In this episode of Conquering FUDDD, Pennie Wilson talks with executive coach Michelle Scott about the invisible mental load high performing leaders can carry beneath packed calendars, difficult decisions, and constant responsibility.
Michelle explores how self doubt, overthinking, internal pressure, and ignored “nudges” can quietly consume energy. Together, Pennie and Michelle look at what happens when slowing down feels unfamiliar, how to recognize internal signals before automatically reacting, and how small practices can create greater access to presence, clarity, and intentional response.

How do you love someone deeply without needing them to become who you imagined?
When we care about someone, it’s natural to hope for their future. But sometimes those hopes quietly become expectations, and the gap between what we want for them and what they choose for themselves can create frustration, urgency, disappointment, and disconnection.
In this special episode of Conquering FUDDD, Pennie invites you inside a real Kokoro repatterning session with community member Martha, shared with her full permission.
Martha enters the session wanting to release the “shoulds” she carries as a parent and become more present, supportive, and unattached to choices that ultimately belong to someone else.
Rather than simply listening to Martha’s answers, you’re invited to participate in the experience yourself.
Notice where your own hopes may have become silent expectations. Notice what happens in your body when you imagine releasing the need to control an outcome and instead walking beside someone with curiosity, compassion, and trust.
Through the session, Martha moves from tightness, frustration, and urgency toward a new internal identity she names Cara, a compassionate, nonjudgmental support who listens, asks questions, and sees others as capable creators of their own lives.
Her realization becomes simple and powerful:
She can let go of expectations that are not hers to carry while still choosing how she wants to show up in the relationship.
This episode is for you if:One member listening alongside Martha said afterward:
“I know this was for Martha, but I felt exactly like it was for me.”
That is the invitation in this episode: notice the pattern, feel the difference, and choose more intentionally how you want to respond.
Because that is mental fitness.

What happens when personal development stops serving your growth and starts using your pain to influence a purchase?
In this episode, Pennie Wilson explores what she calls Manipulation Marketing, the intentional or unintentional use of shame, inadequacy, fear, and emotional pain to move someone toward a sale or desired response.
Rather than turning the conversation into blame, Pennie explores how to recognize when your attention is being directed toward what is wrong with you, how to separate behavior from identity, and how healthy nonattachment, self authority, and awareness can restore your ability to choose.
IN THIS EPISODE00:00 | How to disagree without attacking
Three steps for speaking courageously while staying grounded in your own experience.

Moving through discomfort with curiosity and courage rather than avoiding what matters.
27:48 | Ask without attachment
Making a clear request while preserving the other person’s autonomy and ability to choose.
As you listen, notice:
• Does this message increase my awareness or increase my shame?
• Am I being invited to make a choice, or is emotional pain being intensified to influence my purchase?
• Is my attention being held on what is wrong with me?
• Am I confusing something I have done with who I am?
• What do I actually want instead?
• Can I speak honestly without needing the other person to respond a certain way?
Healthy growth expands your awareness and your capacity to choose, not make your worth dependent on buying the solution.

What if fear doesn’t always look like fear?
Sometimes it can show up as judgment, defensiveness, fixing, rescuing, or needing someone else to make a certain choice so we can feel okay.
In this Mental Fitness Training, Pennie Wilson shares a personal experience that led her to explore healthy nonattachment and a four-stage framework she now uses to recognize the difference between caring deeply and becoming attached to another person’s response or outcome.
Rather than moving into shame when she noticed judgment and discomfort in herself, Pennie chose curiosity. That opened a larger conversation about moving from fixing and controlling toward observation, autonomy, healthy support, and service.
One central idea is:
Care deeply without controlling.
Healthy nonattachment does not mean becoming cold, disconnected, or indifferent. It means being able to offer, support, coach, parent, lead, or serve while still allowing another person the agency to make their own choices.
In This Episode00:00 — When fear doesn’t look like fear
Why judgment, fixing, rescuing, defensiveness, and control can sometimes reveal a deeper attachment to an outcome.
02:03 — Curiosity instead of shame
Pennie shares the personal experience that started this exploration and how noticing discomfort in her body became an invitation to learn rather than criticize herself.
04:25 — Stage 1: Notice what’s in the clouds
Recognizing judgment, fixing, correcting, defensiveness, and forcing—and asking, “What do I think needs to be different?”
06:45 — Stage 2: Move into neutral
Using curiosity, observation, and the pause to notice thoughts and emotions without immediately reacting.
09:09 — Stage 3: Healthy nonattachment
What it means to care without controlling and why another person’s behavior or choice does not have to determine your value.
11:24 — From rescuing to coaching
The difference between trying to fix someone and asking questions that support their awareness, autonomy, and ability to choose.
13:42 — Stage 4: Service without needing return
Pennie explores the idea:
“Give without regard for return.”
Not because receiving money, value, or compensation is wrong—but because service becomes different when your sense of worth is no longer dependent on someone else responding the way you hoped they would.
Questions to ConsiderAs you listen, notice:
Pennie references research that has attempted to define and measure nonattachment as a psychological construct.
You can explore the research here:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20155561/
The linked paper describes the development and validation of a Nonattachment Scale, offering one research-based way to examine an internal quality that can otherwise feel difficult to define or measure.

If You Can’t See It, You Can’t Change It.
What if the way you learned to succeed is no longer the way you want to live?
For many purpose-driven adults, pressure has become so familiar that we barely recognize it. We push harder, carry more, and tell ourselves this is simply what success requires.
That way of operating may have helped us accomplish meaningful things. But what happens when achievement no longer creates the fulfillment we thought it would? What happens when the identity that brought us this far no longer fits the person we are becoming?
In this episode of the Conquering FUDDD Podcast, Pennie Wilson speaks with leadership coach Kurt Bush about the beliefs beneath hustle and the difference between pressure-driven action and purpose-driven action.
Together, they explore how fear, unmet needs, imposter syndrome, identity, and the need to prove ourselves can shape how we lead, work, serve, and live.
Kurt shares how beliefs such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’m going to be found out,” and “I have to strive to earn” can drive achievement while leaving us disconnected from meaning, alignment, and fulfillment.
This conversation is not about abandoning ambition. It is about learning how to pursue what matters without losing your connection to yourself, your relationships, or the deeper purpose behind what you are creating.
In this episode, we explore:
• Why hustle can become so normal that we stop recognizing it as pressure
• The hidden beliefs beneath overworking and constant striving
• How fear of falling behind shapes our definition of success
• The difference between achievement and fulfillment
• The connection between unmet needs, people-pleasing, and burnout
• Why serving from exhaustion differs from genuine contribution
• How boundaries and awareness create intentional choice
• Why measuring only external outcomes can leave us feeling powerless
• How regret can become information instead of shame
• What changes when we believe, “I have enough, and I’ve done enough”
Key takeaway:
Achievement is not the enemy.
The deeper question is: What is fueling your action?

What if confidence isn't something you wait for?
What if confidence is the evidence you collect after choosing courage?
In this episode of Conquering FUDDD Through Mental Fitness, Pennie Wilson sits down with Bernice McDonald, creator of the Tiny Brave Steps Method, to explore how courage is built one intentional choice at a time.
Bernice shares her personal journey from living with the belief that she wasn't enough to discovering that fear doesn't have to disappear before you move forward. Together, Pennie and Bernice unpack how self-trust is developed, why comparison keeps so many people stuck, and how taking one tiny brave step can transform the way you see yourself.
One of the most memorable moments is Bernice's story of "Fred"—the little dragon that represents fear. Rather than trying to eliminate fear, she explains how learning to put fear in the back seat instead of behind the wheel changed everything.
If you've ever felt caught between the life you're living and the life you know is possible, this conversation will remind you that confidence isn't the starting point.

Season 2: UNDER PRESSURE: The Inner Conditions of High Performance, explores the human side of leadership in a world of rapid change, uncertainty, rising expectations, and constant pressure.
FUDDD stands for Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt, Dread, and Discouragement. These are some of the internal conditions that can influence how we think, communicate, decide, and lead when the stakes rise.
Hosted by Mental Fitness Trainer Pennie Wilson, the podcast explores the space between knowing what to do and being able to access that wisdom under pressure.
Through grounded conversations with leaders, founders, executives, researchers, and practitioners, we explore:
• What pressure exposes
• The patterns that become more visible when stakes rise
• How those patterns affect decisions, trust, communication, and results
• What allows people to remain calm, clear, connected, and effective
• What can change when we learn to recognize and repattern what happens inside us
Because capable people do not suddenly lose their intelligence, experience, or commitment under pressure.
But they can lose access to them.
If you can’t see the pattern, you can’t change it.
If you have ever thought, “I know what to do, so why is this still so hard under pressure?” this conversation is for you.
