There’s Something Happening…
September 2024 represents an unmissable opportunity to UNITE 4 PEACE. Building on many decades of pioneering peace work, this International Day of Peace on September 21st marks the 40th anniversary of the first global celebration, which took place back in 1984. Leading up to September 21 is a time for communities and individuals worldwide to engage in activities, events and collaboration for peace. This initiative culminates in Peace Week from September 14th to 21st, a convergence of social innovators and their networks, aimed at fostering unity and harmony.
The grand finale of these interrelated activities is the International Day of Peace on September 21, featuring a global broadcast and a 24-hour shared experience. This vitally important moment in human history will see a great many global networks, organizations, and communities come together as one to UNITE 4 PEACE, honoring this powerful milestone.
Linking major events from Hiroshima, San Francisco, New York, Geneva, London, Addis Ababa, and many other locations worldwide, this historic UNITE 4 PEACE Worldwide Broadcast & 24-Hour Shared Global Experience will be an unprecedented moment of unity.
The International Day of Peace, September 21, is the most advanced “planetary day,” with an estimated reach of 3 billion people. It presents a unique opportunity to unite the world in a shared celebration of peace and global connection. By producing a global broadcast that begins and ends in Hiroshima, Japan, we can connect groups and organizations from diverse regions, amplifying voices and stories that inspire collective action.
Together, we will observe the 24-hour Peace Wave, with a minute’s silence at noon in every time zone around the world. This broadcast will not only foster global awareness and unity but also serve as a powerful educational tool, showcasing innovative peace-building efforts and encouraging collaboration.

David has been a leader in organizing the celebration of the International Day of Peace since 1984 and he currently serves as a PTP Director. While working at Stanford University, in 1985 he founded the ten year-long PTP Peace Within Organizations program and in 1995 co-founded the visionary project Peace Building Through Business which led to being a leading member of a five year international think tank on the future role of business in the 21st Century. David is currently the Team Leader of the global Culture of Peace Initiative (CPI), a UN-designated “Peace Messenger Initiative”, of which Pathways To Peace serves as the Secretariat.

UNITY EARTH embarked on its transformative journey with the inception of the first U Day Festival in Thailand back in 2012. As we fast forward to 2024, this year marks the pinnacle of a twelve-year odyssey—a culmination of endeavors, experiences, and collective aspirations. Peace Week 2024: Land Of The Rising Sun beckons, a profound week-long pilgrimage spanning the sacred lands of Japan. Our journey commences in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo, where the pulse of modernity harmonizes with ancient tradition. From there, we traverse towards the majestic slopes of Mount Fuji, a beacon of serenity and spiritual resonance. Finally, our path converges upon the historic city of Hiroshima, a poignant testament to resilience, reconciliation, and the enduring pursuit of peace.
This momentous event is not merely a standalone occurrence but rather a continuation of the esteemed U Day Festival series, which first graced the world stage in December 2012 amidst the enchanting landscapes of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Subsequent chapters unfolded with U DAY Ethiopia: Land of Origins in 2018, followed by Holy Land Living Water in 2020—each installment a testament to the universality of our shared human experience and the intrinsic yearning for unity amidst diversity.
In the heart of Japan, amidst the sakura blossoms and the echoes of history, we gather to commemorate not only the conclusion of a twelve-year journey but also the dawn of a new era—a testament to the enduring spirit of UNITY EARTH. This pilgrimage symbolizes a profound testament to the power of collective action, transcending geographical boundaries, cultural divides, and ideological differences in pursuit of a common goal: peace.
We extend a heartfelt invitation to you, dear global citizens, to join us on this sacred pilgrimage. Together, let us forge ahead, hand in hand, with an extraordinary collective of Peace-Builders from every corner of the globe. As we embark on this culminating journey of UNITY EARTH’s 2012-2024 series of worldwide events, let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering harmony, understanding, and compassion across all borders.
Amidst the tapestry of diverse cultures and traditions, we find common ground—a shared humanity that unites us in our quest for a better world. This is not merely a journey of physical exploration but a spiritual odyssey—a voyage of the soul towards a future where peace reigns supreme.
In the footsteps of those who came before us, let us chart a course towards a world where love triumphs over hatred, understanding over ignorance, and unity over division. Join us as we write the final chapter of the global U Day Series—a testament to the enduring power of hope, perseverance, and the indomitable human spirit.

Join Marc Caron as he speaks with Michael Kraus about “Connecting People, Vison, and Wisdom” and his mission to engage all members of the human family to join together, to awaken our spiritual roots in unity, and to create a peaceful world where the virtues of love, kindness, compassion, empathy and collaboration are a daily reality for all.
We are at a critical moment in human history and the decisions that we are making today have a great impact on future generations. A new civilization is possible when we start to understand the potential of our minds, the power of our voices, the intelligence of our hearts and the convictions of our souls and act based on the guiding principles of collaboration, cooperation, compassion and love and in accordance with the laws of nature. We belief that within the human capacity is the potential of each and every one of us to impact and change our current experience, transform into a new civilization and unlock our full innate capability to heal from the wounds that we have inflicted on ourselves, others and the environment. The times ahead require us to act and think differently if we want to solve the world’s most imminent problems. We believe the time has come to join together in a common purpose and remake the planet into a haven of joy and understanding and goodness.

Join Marc Caron as he speaks with Ziya Tong about her most recent documentary “Plastic People”. ZIYA TONG is an award-winning author and broadcaster, best known for her work with Discovery’s flagship science show, Daily Planet, and NOVA ScienceNow on PBS. She is the author of the best-selling book The Reality Bubble, which was shortlisted for Canada’s most prestigious non-fiction literary prize, and won the Lane Anderson Award for best science writing. Ziya served as the Vice Chair of WWF Canada and currently serves as a trustee of WWF International.
The ground-breaking feature documentary PLASTIC PEOPLE investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health. Almost every bit of plastic ever made breaks down into “microplastics.” These microscopic particles drift in the air, float in all bodies of water, and mix into the soil, becoming a permanent part of the environment. Now, leading scientists are finding these particles in our bodies: organs, blood, brain tissue, and even the placentas of new mothers. What is the impact of these invisible invaders on our health? And can anything be done about it? Acclaimed author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes a personal approach by visiting leading scientists around the world and undergoing experiments in her home, on her food, and her body while collaborating with award-winning director Ben Addelman (Discordia, Bombay Calling, Nollywood Babylon, Kivalina v. Exxon) in an urgent call to action for all of us to rethink our relationship with plastic. https://plasticpeopledoc.com/
In Ziya’s words…
“We are fast becoming a plastic society. Pretty soon, we will have more in common with Ken & Barbie than with our natural environment.” — Anthony T. Hincks
We live in a time where some of our greatest threats are invisible. Like the climate crisis, microplastic pollution cannot be: it spans the globe, chokes up rivers and animals, and insidiously infiltrates the human body.
As a science journalist and author, I have been reporting on the threat of plastic for almost two decades and believe that now more than ever, we need to reveal the connection between planetary health and human health, which is why I’ve put my own body on the line for the “Plastic People” project.
As part of my journey, I will test my own home, my own food, and even my own feces for microplastics. We are very fortunate to also have a world-first for this project, as we meet surgeons and scientists who are probing the human brain to reveal whether microplastics can cross the blood-brain barrier. The results of testing here will be incredibly significant.
Many people have heard of the enormity of microplastic pollution in the environment, but few know the depths of the worrisome science pointing to the fact that plastic accumulation in human bodies is causing serious health concerns. And while we may come across the occasional news headline, there is something viscerally different about actually seeing plastic fragments in human blood, right on the big screen.
In this film, our goal has been to do just that: make the invisible, visible. Tying the human body to the global body, we travel the world to expose the threat of waste colonialism. We hear stories from those on the front lines of the plastic pollution crisis whose bodies are inundated with microplastics on a daily basis. And we see how plastic breaks down in the natural environment: how it spreads on farm fields, enters water systems, and drifts across currents in the air, as we breathe, eat and drink it into our bodies, again and again.
Importantly, however, “Plastic People” is not a paralyzing film. It’s an ambitious attempt to grapple with plastic’s threat to human health in a hard-hitting, but ultimately solutions-oriented way. Yes, the subject matter is weighty. But the goal here is to motivate people to action, not to fear. Accompanying the film will be a state-of-the-art impact campaign to allow viewers, armed with new information, to push for solutions.
It’s strange: I have traveled to the most remote corners of the globe for my journalism. But it is “Plastic People”, the journey to discover the pollution that is closest to home — that’s inside of me — that is possibly the most consequential story I’ve ever told. On behalf of the whole team, thank you in advance for considering this vital and timely documentary. We would be grateful and honored to share it with your audience.
Ben Addelman – Director – Bio & Statement
BEN ADDELMAN makes documentary films, television, and commercials. He is the director of four award-winning feature documentaries. These films have all screened in competition at major festivals including Sundance, Hot Docs, Edinburgh, Human Rights Watch NYC, Durban, Whistler and many more. His work has been broadcast on Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, BBC, Viceland, CBC, Sundance Channel, National Geographic, and others.
Having spent almost 20 years making documentary films and television, I believe in the power of this ever-changing medium to open people’s minds and see the world through a different lens. Most often this is a subtle, incremental process that accumulates over time. But occasionally a documentary can take on a subject that is so shockingly urgent that these shifts in point of view happen all at once. The subject of microplastics has the potential to be one of those subjects. We are endeavoring to create a film that rises to the level of the subject matter and has a profound effect on the audience and society at large.
Of course, there are dangers to having this type of lofty ambition. Films with big social messages can be boring, poorly made, partisan and result in the opposite of the desired effect. That is why the team behind Plastic People is committed to making an entertaining film with real character, drama, excitement and depth.
The film is structured as one person’s journey to uncover the depths of the microplastic issue and specifically how this form of pollution impacts human health. This is a global subject, and we will use this opportunity to move around the world with a sense of adventure and investigative spirit. The (preventable) spread of microplastics, and their impact on human health, is a nascent subject that still possesses the power to surprise, shock and infuriate. This tension and drama will be woven into the serious message of Plastic People to achieve the best of both worlds.
From the moment we began discussing this project I was very impressed with every member of the team’s commitment to making something distinctive and meaningful. I have never worked on a project with so much attention paid to that unique combination of creating a social impact and making something big and entertaining right from day one.
I very much look forward to using everything I have learned about filmmaking, structure, creating elevated visuals and storytelling to help bring out the best of this important subject, using this film to educate, to connect and to inspire action on a critically important subject.

Biognosis shares stories of people who study, use, and protect the healing plants that surround an Amazonian community at a time when traditional knowledge is being lost as rap- idly as the Amazon Rainforest itself.
The McKenna Academy’s Biognosis project aims to renovate and digitize an immensely important collection of 150,000 biological specimens currently housed at the Herbarium of the Amazon in Iquitos, Peru. The herbarium includes vital knowledge on how the indigenous people use the plants for healing. It is our vision to make this reservoir of knowledge and wisdom available for future generations.
On December 25, 2021, the world lost one of its greatest scientists and the “godfather of biodiversity,” Dr. Thomas Lovejoy. Join his family and several of his closest friends and col- leagues on an educational journey and heartfelt mission of love and hope as they travel together to return Dr. Lovejoy’s ashes to the magical place where he devoted his life to understanding and protecting the Amazon rainforest.
Both films; “Back to Camp 41”, and “Biognosis” are projects supported by B Corp film production company Hemmings House through their 1% For the Planet commitment to supporting environmental non-profits. Refreshments, including a botanical beverage bar will be available, compliments of Casey McFarlane. All proceeds go to the McKenna Academy of Natural Philosophy to support their continued work in cultivating harmony with nature through educational programs, ethnobiological exploration and engagement with indigenous wisdom.
Dennis McKenna’s research has focused on the interdisciplinary study of Amazonian ethnopharmacology. He has conducted extensive ethnobotanical fieldwork in the Peruvian Amazon. His doctoral research (University of British Columbia,1984) focused on the ethnopharmacology of ayahuasca and oo-koo-he, two tryptamine-based hallucinogens used by indigenous peoples in the Northwest Amazon. He is a founding board member of the Heffter Research Institute, and was a key organizer and participant in the Hoasca Project, the first biomedical investigation of ayahuasca.
He is the younger brother of Terence McKenna. From 2000 to 2017, he taught courses on Ethnopharmacology and Plants in Human affairs in the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota.
In 2019, in collaboration with colleagues, he incorporated a new non-profit, the McKenna Academy of Natural Philosophy. He emigrated to Canada in the spring of 2019 together with his wife Sheila, and now resides in Abbotsford, B.C.
Dr. McKenna is one of our strongest advocates on behalf of the entheogenic plant medicines and is often called upon to speak at related conferences and symposia. He also has a recent memoir The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss: My Life with Terence McKenna
