Luke was a trained and educated man. He was a physician, a trained thinker and observer, and a qualified eyewitness to the foundation and beginning of Christianity. He wrote what he saw and verified. He was a follower of the Christ. As scientific thinkers we have much in common with Luke and can have a high confidence in what he observed and recorded. We discuss Luke’s writing in the New Testament book of Acts and to some extent the Gospel that bears his name. They were companion texts. Luke helps us believe because he believed. 

We continue by discussing the resurrection of Jesus. Many scientific thinkers have a problem with the concept of resurrection, living again after dying. Christians believe Jesus was resurrected and we discuss why we can believe this and why it is so important. 

We follow Podcast 12 with the teaching of Jesus the few days before His trial and crucifixion and discuss the relationships of the disciples’ understanding to what Jesus was saying. We also discuss His interaction with the Jewish authorities and Pilate. His teaching becomes more specific and more direct and He actually mentions his teaching plan and style. For me, this helps me understand Jesus and His thoughts and actions and plans. 

Podcast 12 continues the teaching of Jesus when talking with individuals, often in direct response to questions, and often answered aloud so that all may hear and learn. We consider a few of Jesus’ teachings from His transfiguration, where Podcast 11 ended, to just before his final entry into Jerusalem prior to his trial and crucifixion. As we have discussed, the closer Jesus came to his final time, his teaching expanded and became more direct especially to the religious leaders and teachers of the day. We only sampled His teaching and I encourage all to read the chapters in Mathew, Mark, and/or Luke that record the words of Jesus. 

We continue with the teaching of Jesus and consider some of the direct, person to person, teaching and the impacts it had on the crowds and his disciples, as well as thinking critically. As scientific thinkers, we will appreciate this teaching and the impacts of what Jesus was saying and doing. 

We continue with our final Part 3 discussion considering the teachings of Jesus through the parables and the parable form. The rationale and logic of the parables is discussed. 

We continue considering the teaching of Jesus through his parables and their unique ability to transmit universal truths in very simple concepts.

We continue the discussion of the Sermon on the Mount, one of the seminal teaching events recorded for Jesus and discuss the meaning and approach to Jesus’ thoughts. This is the third podcast on the Sermon on the Mount and concludes this initial discussion. The next few podcasts will consider additional teaching of Jesus.
