And the conspirasphere uses the idea of the false flag, both in general and specific terms, quite often to justify certain narratives. In that regard, the two most influential are the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. on September 11, 2001. Since that latter event, nearly every major public incident has been called a false flag by someone or another.
