In his new book "Angels in Vermillion" he details the existence of a Red Powder made from Acacia that caused hallucinogenic effects in it's users that were similar to DMT Experiences. He looks at the history of this as written about by John Dee and filtered down to such diverse groups as the Royal Society and the Theosophists.
