What is the Construction Mentor Podcast?
This podcast covers everything there is to know about construction jobs. Whether it be advice for a career as a construction manager or construction entrepreneur, OR if you are looking for construction jobs that pay well. Especially construction jobs that pay well without experience or jobs that pay well.
Working in construction sounds dirty, it sounds back breaking, but most people do not realize the variety of opportunities there are in construction…all available without breaking your back! In today’s world of construction, avoiding construction accidents by working safely and intelligently is a top priority!
These are jobs that pay well don’t require a degree. Many of these jobs make over 100k per year and include benefits i.e., full health benefits, access to construction vehicles, free construction trucks.
There is no glass ceiling with a career in construction, the sky is truly the limit! With the right mentorship could be jobs that make you a millionaire. Regarding job availability and security… these are jobs that will hire immediately, AND these jobs are not jobs that will be replaced with AI.
The construction industry does not only have physically laborious jobs on site. The construction industry offers several different career paths that can make a lot of money; careers in finance, careers in technology, careers in software, careers in 3D modeling, and 3D design, careers in architecture, careers in engineering, careers that use AI, and even careers that operate HEAVY machinery remotely which is almost like a career playing video games in construction!
Supply and demand is the cardinal rule of economics. The truth is that skilled trades are dying. The skilled trades shortage is so dire that all skilled trades are in demand, meaning all skilled trades pay well. Now, some do pay better than others which is why you need to listen to construction podcasts and skilled trades podcasts like this one! This is the best way to find out which blue collar education is the best path for your future, and could even lead you to becoming a blue collar millionaire.
The construction industry is one of the few, or maybe THE ONLY industry were the education does not cost you any money. Not only do you avoid a student loan, but you get paid to get an education. Considering the current student loan crisis, that makes these careers even more appealing. On this podcast we do explain student loans and compare them to starting salaries. Even if you still wanted to pay for an education, the construction related majors have the highest starting salaries!
Our guests include professionals who are experts in carpentry work, electrical work, HVAC work, and beyond! Join the conversation every Tuesday morning at 4:30AM!
Let's talk about how people screw up their construction projects. Not the top 3 ways, but these are 3 common mistakes that people make on their projects.
Do NOT let this happen to you! Prioritize your client's success, even if that means taking the less comfortable road.
Most importantly, do not become a "YES person". Learn to manage chaos and moments of crisis by educating your project teams AND how you can set up your team to avoid these situations in the first place.

In this episode we sit down with Garrett Davis, famously known as "The Life of Bub" on Instagram. Currently he is the part owner of Advanced Home Contracting down in South West Florida. Previously he ran his own carpentry and construction business in Maine.
Garrett takes us through his roller coaster of a life story. How he knew that school was not for him, his entrance into the trades, how he started his own business, and his triumph over his severe drug addiction.
His addiction was so bad that he actually overdosed twice, and he tells us how that was still not rock bottom for him.
The best part of his story is the way in which he was able to overcome his addiction and use that journey to find "gifts" that have enabled him to make money hand over fist in the construction industry.

Opportunities for education include; trade training, online curriculums & trade tasks, knowledge tests & performance tests, and certifications that are transferable from region to region.
They even serve as a conduit to apprenticeships!
These opportunities are for ANYONE. Whether you are graduating from High-school, want to make a career change, or even looking for a second chance as you come out of a correctional facility NCCER has the opportunities for you.

Listen to Episode 24 of the Construction Mentor Podcast to find out how the Independent Electrical Contractors can help you enter the construction industry by developing your skills as an electrician. This is one of the highest paying niches in the trades and my #2 recommendation for anyone considering this as a career path.
The national average is $65,000 per year before overtime.
In larger markets like New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. electricians are making over $50 per hour before overtime. That is $100,000 per year, before benefits.
In smaller markets with much lower costs of living they are making $46,000 to $64,000 as you learned in this video.
In either case, all trained and skilled electricians have the option to start their own business and take this valuable skill to their community, where the sky is the limit for yearly earnings!
If you are interested in a career as an electrician go to ieci.org for more information!
You don’t need experience, and it is NEVER too late to start your career!

In this episode I interview Lia Lamela. She is not just a woman in construction, she is actually in the trades and loves her growing career as an electrician! She also happens to a podcast which is in the top 1% of all podcasts globally. (check out the "Sparky Life" Podcast).
Lia has an inspiring story that everyone can learn from and that everyone should share, it could actually save someone's life.
Lia is a survivor of domestic violence. When she separated herself from that situation, she lost everything. She only had her car, her pets... she did not even have a career or source of income that she could rely on. This was the type of situation that keep many women afraid to escape their own abusive relationships.
At this time she sought an opportunity in the trades. She tells us her triumphant story, going to trades school while living in a woman's home, working through an expedited apprenticeship, getting her license.... all on her road to personal freedom.
Lia also shares her views on being a woman in a male dominated industry. The good, the bad, and the ugly. She shares advice on how to navigate such a male dominated world, and the benefit of pursuing such a career, AND the benefit for the industry to have men and women working along side each other.
Most importantly she shares how a career in construction enable her to serve her ultimate PURPOSE to help others, and deliver value to the lives of others.
