After an extended break, we reconvene to not quite but maybe in the future recommend Outriders, learn how Square Enix ripped off Minecraft and Keflings, and ask the question everyone has - why isn't VR more fun?
Immediately following the podcast, we played Walkabout Mini Golf for 2 hours. It's pretty good.
Happy Easter! Consume and Report returns with a far-ranging discussion covering a wide variety of...well, video games. Ryan tries to convince us to buy Half-Life: Alyx despite the reasonable system requirements; Chris goes 1 for 3 in the enjoyment of recent games; and host Chris provides the results of his extensive study into the many ways Lara Croft dies horribly in the third Tomb Raider reboot.
Note: Zencastr, our recording platform, records local audio files so the internet can't screw with the quality; we forgot this, so there were a few bits where my co-hosts can't understand me as I go "robot", and they comment as such despite my track sounding just fine.
The much anticipated book club edition of Consume and Report, where we dig into Ready Player Two (and a bit of the first book). We touch on a lot of aspects of the book, and some of our opinions are a bit unexpected. That segment starts at 1:28, and contains spoilers, so end there if you intend to read it.
Also: Does Chris' dream RPG game exist? Will Ryan buy Valheim? Is there life outside Early Access?
Episode 5 of Consume and Report will feature a rousing round table about Ready Player Two (and probably a bit about the first book)! Beyond that, some talk about tactical combat, RPGs, and honestly whatever weird stuff Chris found on Facebook since last time. The technical hurdles during a pandemic are real, but we're doing our best to overcome them.
And we have a contact email now! Reach us at [email protected] with suggestions or comments.
We've been doing a lot of multiplayer stuff lately, as a group, so prepare for tales from the high seas and some extremely middling reactions to World War Z. Host Chris has been reading and watching a lot of sci-fi lately, and co-host Chris keeps hearing about betas from...Facebook?
We reflect on the hellscape of 2020, and more literally the hellscape of Hades. Chris regales us with tales of the weird games he finds on Steam when he's sick, I follow up on the space outlaws + sex book series I finished, and Ryan somehow agrees with me on a movie. It's a crazy world man.
Despite a rude interruption in recording from Craigbot, we manage to get through some more VR talk, Chris gushes about Hades, and I acknowledge my very specific book search needs (with pleasant results!).
