  • Meditation with Psalm 139

    Contemplative at Home offers guided meditative prayer – space to slow down and listen to the truth that is being born out of God’s love for you today – drawing on Ignatian spirituality and at times, Lectio Divina.

    In this 20 minute meditation, we pray with Psalm 139:1-5 and 13-18 from the NRSV:

    O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
    You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from far away.
    You search out my path and my lying down,
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
    Even before a word is on my tongue,
    O Lord, you know it completely.
    You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay your hand upon me.
    For it was you who formed my inward parts;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
    I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
    Wonderful are your works;
    that I know very well.
    My frame was not hidden from you,
    when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
    Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.
    In your book were written
    all the days that were formed for me,
    when none of them as yet existed.
    How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
    I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
    I come to the end[a]—I am still with you.”

    Every blessing as you pray.

  • Meditation with Psalm 81

    Contemplative at Home offers guided meditative prayer – space to slow down and listen to the truth that is being born out of God’s love for you today – drawing on Ignatian spirituality and at times, Lectio Divina.

    In Psalm 81:1-10, the psalmist reminds us to give thanks and worship God, to remember all that good that you have known, all the good that God has done.

    There is indeed mystery (an unknown voice in verse 5, a response from a thundercloud in verse 7) and perhaps this is why God decrees a a rhythm of remembering, the full moon and the new moon being reminders to worship.

    You are invited to build into your life a regular rhythm of remembering, and praise. There is hope for the future in the goodness we have known in the past.

    This episode offers 20 minutes of guided meditation on God’s loving presence and the words of Psalm 81:1-10. Every blessing as you pray.

  • Meditation with Psalm 71

    Contemplative at Home offers guided meditative prayer – space to slow down and listen to the truth that is being born out of God’s love for you today – drawing on Ignatian spirituality and at times, Lectio Divina.

    In Psalm 71;1-6, the Psalmist cries out to the Lord to rescue, to deliver, to save.

    I wonder what has you ‘in its grip’ this week – what you need to be saved from just now? Is it a particular fear or anxiety, an unhelpful pattern of thinking or fixation you’ve developed, oppressive circumstances or perhaps something else?

    God may not always ‘rescue’ us from difficult decisions or situations and yet our relationship to such things can very much be transformed, delivered. May you know some healing – big or small – as you entrust yourself to the Lord with the Psalmist:

    “For you have ben my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth”

    Every blessing as you pray.

  • Meditation with Psalm 16

    In this 20 minute session of guided prayer, we meditate on Psalm 16.

    I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;    apart from you I have no good thing.”

    Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.   – Psalm 16:2, 4

    There is goodness beyond our wildest imagination available to us right now, right here in our every day lives. And yet so often I turn to the ‘other gods’ of comfort, numbing out on social media, mindless television, food…. We know however, that when we numb pain and discomfort, we also numb joy.

    So we return to our breath, and look around and count our blessings.

    The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;    surely I have a delightful inheritance. – Psalm 16:6

    Delight. Pleasure. Joy. May you find yourself at home.

    You make known to me the path of life;    you will fill me with joy in your presence,    with eternal pleasures at your right hand. – Psalm 16:11

    Every blessing as you pray.
