Contend 1

Ref: [Jude 1:3KJVS]

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,(Jude is saying, Im writing to you about the common salvation, which is important but) it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Jude saw it necessary to emphasize that they(and in extension us) CONTEND. The Greek word there is epagōnizomai which literally means to struggle like one entering into a gymnastics contest. To contend with adversaries, fight, to fight fervently.

To endeavor with strenuous zeal, strive: to obtain something.

So there is a necessity not just to get yourself saved but now, to contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints, why? Because of perversion.

Jude addresses an example of such in the people who began to turn grace to lasciviousness and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. So it’s your responsibility to strive to establish the truth of your faith before those who aim to pervert it.
