Day 2: Beyond Baseball Card Faith

We live in an information age where facts are at our fingertips. You can Google almost anything about Jesus—His birthplace, His miracles, His teachings—and become quite knowledgeable. But there’s a significant difference between knowing about someone and actually knowing them. Many of us have fallen into what could be called a “baseball card” understanding of Jesus. We collect facts, memorize verses, and can answer theological questions, but we lack the deep, personal relationship that transforms our hearts and lives. Imagine if your closest friend only knew facts about you—your birthday, where you work, your favorite color—but never spent time with you, never shared their heart with you, and never allowed you to influence their decisions. That wouldn’t be much of a friendship, would it? True discipleship requires both knowledge and relationship. We need to study Scripture to understand who Jesus is, but we also need to spend time with Him in prayer, allow His truth to change us, and experience His presence in our daily lives. The goal isn’t just to know more about Jesus; it’s to know Jesus more. This kind of knowing comes through consistent time in His Word, honest conversation in prayer, and a willingness to let His truth reshape how we think and live.

‘And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.’ - Hebrews 10:24-25

What’s one way you can move from simply knowing facts about Jesus to developing a deeper, more personal relationship with Him this week?

Jesus, I don’t want to settle for just knowing about You. I want to truly know You. Help me to move beyond collecting facts to experiencing Your presence and allowing Your truth to transform my heart and life.
