  • Episode #276: A Conversation about Purposeful Living

In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin have a conversation about what it looks like to live as the body of Christ with purposeful living. There are many people who are struggling to figure out what the purpose of life is and find themselves floundering on their own.

This conversation is the reminder that as a Christian, you are part of the Body of Christ, and therefore never alone or isolated. But, then as the living Body of Christ, we live with the purpose of Christ. We do not need to find or invent a purpose, we already have one.

What is it? We've been sent into the world with the message of the Gospel for the sake of the whole world.

We hope you enjoy this conversation.

  • Episode #275: A Conversation about the Heart

The heart is a critical component to the body. Without one... well, you're not going to be alive.

Throughout the Bible, and even in regular parlance, the idea of the heart means more than the organ that beats in your chest, but also deals with the centrality of an issue. "Let's get to the heart of the matter."

In the body of Christ, our hearts beat as one, as we are united under the headship of Jesus Christ. Jesus is what animates the body of Christ. Who he is, what he has done is what we are after.

In this conversation, Aaron and Kevin discuss this reality and help us through stories and practical advice understand how to have our hearts aligned with the heart of Jesus.

    We hope you enjoy it!

  • Episode #274: A Conversation about the Body of Christ

Have you ever wondered what role different Christian denominations play in the Body of Christ? There are so many different kinds of churches, but is there any kind of unity that exists between them?

This discussion hovers in that idea where Aaron and Kevin look at the different denominations in light of the Body of Christ imagery in the Scriptures. In addition to looking at the Church as a whole, they also focus on a local level in what it means to be a member of a local congregation and the blessings that come with it.

    We hope you enjoy it!

  • Episode #273: A Conversation about Unity

In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin discuss what it looks like to live together as the Christian Church.

For the next couple weeks, we'll be discussing unity by considering the words of Paul in Ephesians and Jesus in the Gospel of John.

In this first conversation, the guys discuss the headship of Jesus Christ and how his leadership is a good thing for us when honored for what it is.

    We hope you enjoy it!

  • Episode #272: A Conversation about Transformation

In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin discuss what it looks like to live a transformed Christian life.

When you think about Christianity, does it seem like a list of "dos and don'ts"? Maybe you've heard that there are certain standards Christians should live by, but either you don't want to, or you've tried and it seems impossible.

What does it mean when the Apostle Paul says in Romans 12, "do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind"?

You'll notice that that it says "be transformed" not "transform yourself," which means that the transformation process is something that God accomplishes in your life, not something that you can do for God.

As we've been walking through Romans, you've heard over and over again about God's work in our lives by his grace alone. Therefore, even the transformed Christian life comes to us not by what we do, but by what God has done and is doing in and through us.

We hope you enjoy this conversation!

  • Episode #271: A Conversation about Glory

In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin discuss what it looks like to give God all the glory.

We may not think too much or too often about what glory actually is. This isn't necessarily a concept that shows up much outside of the church. But, if you pay attention, you will see that people are constantly seeking the glory. That is, people are seeking the credit, the fame, the attention.

But, in our walk with Jesus, He gets all the glory. That means, He gets all the credit for saving us from our sins and promising eternal life for us.

May this conversation inspire in you a spirit that gives God all the glory forever.

    We hope you enjoy it!

  • Episode #270: A Conversation about the Confidence of Faith

Have you ever wondered if you're truly saved? If God truly loves you? If you've done enough, or perhaps done the wrong things? It's a common theme that we hear from people not only outside of the Christian faith, but even from professing Christians.

Now, there are some doctrines in certain Christian circles that may illicit those questions either intentionally or unintentionally in the way they interpret Scripture. But, from the Lutheran understanding, we read Paul's words in Romans 8:38, "I am sure" as an actual certainty in the objective reality of Jesus' Christ's death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

This one goes a bit deep, but it's good to ponder and distinguish what we believe. Because, what we believe shapes how we believe about everything else.

  • Episode #269: A Conversation about Grace

In this week's episode, Aaron and Kevin are both back together for the first time in a month on the brown couch.

They catch up a bit on where they've been and what they've been up to. But, more than that, this conversation centers around the concept of grace.

Grace is one of those words that gets tossed around in the Christian Church as if everyone knows what we're talking about. But, there's a lot of confusion or even different understandings about the role of grace in the Christian's life.

The guys attempt to clear some of this up and also give practical advice for how we can go about giving grace to one another.

    We hope you enjoy it!

In this conversation, Marcus shares some of the highlights from his time away and reflects on the insights he gained in this time away.

Not only do the guys talk about Marcus' sabbatical, but also share about the Biblical basis for sabbath, rest, and the ways that orienting ourselves around God's schedule for our lives completely shapes the way we live our lives. They even share practical advice for ways to incorporate sabbath rhythms into your own lives.
