William's well-known for his many roles in Australian television and film, including those in SeaChange and Look Both Ways; and from his popular books.
With his wife, filmmaker Sarah Watt, he wrote Worse Things Happen At Sea, a memoir of their family and relationship. Sarah died in 2011.
William has recently written a new novel and is working on a documentary about birds.
He is also the Ambassador of the Year of Reading 2012, and remains Chair of Canberra's Museum of Democracy.
