March 12, 2018Conversations Beyond Science and Religion – Dream-Weaving While YoungOver 200,000 books on Amazon have "dream" in the title. And there is something about dreams that have always captivated the mind. How many times do we read about athletes, artists, lovers, and the person on street talk about how their dreams have come true? We "live the dream;" and at times, it all feels like a dream. The dream permeates culture from music (e.g., the Dream Weaver, Dream On) and movies (e.g., Inception), to car commercials (Honda Civic) and virtually everything else. Unfortunately, most of our lives are spent in a culture that marginalizes the dream; we are limited mortal creatures; machines destined to rust away and die. Dreams are fantasies. Do not bother. But this week's guest, Brent Feinberg, has an idea. In this new book, Freeing Freddie - The Dream Weaver, he weaves a simple tale for kids of all ages. The story is simple: start believing in the dream when young, and never give up the quest. ...more56minPlay
December 11, 2017Conversations Beyond Science and Religion – A New on the Evolution and Purpose of LifeThe standard interpretation of the meaning and purpose of life is that we are mortal creatures who have evolved from bacteria through the mindless, directionless process of Darwinian evolution. According to Darwin's leading modern-day advocate, Richard Dawkins, we are "survival machines – robot vehicles blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes." The standard interpretation carries the day and is accepted by almost all orthodox biologists. But this fact does not mean the interpretation is true. One way to find out is to compare it to other perspectives, many of which may seem radical and "out-there." On this show, Philip interviews one of the world's most original thinkers and best-selling author, Tim Freke, about his new book, Soul Story: Evolution and the Purpose of Life (https://www.amazon.com/Soul-Story-Evolution-Purpose-Life/dp/1780289847). To Tim Freke, Darwin's theory, if not wrong, is incomplete: evolution does not stop with the physical body, but continues to the realization that we are an emerging spiritual being in a never-ending process of creativity. So you may just go along with Darwin and move on; or you might consider a different, and more uplifting perspective. Listen in as Philip and Tim discuss what Tim calls the new worldview of "emergent spirituality."...more1h 6minPlay
October 23, 2017Conversations Beyond Science and Religion – Visions and the Independent WorldVisions have a better chance of coming true if they are in fact connected to the outer world; if the make-up of visions have something in common with the make-up of the physical world. Almost 100 years scientists discovered, through theory and experiment, that the outer, physical world, consists not of things but of waves and energy packets. These things that we thought made up an independent world in fact don't exist (https://www.scientificamerican.com/media/pdf/197911_0158.pdf), and thus neither does the independent world. This means that indeed, when we have a vision we are not in fact pounding our heads against a wall, but instead entering data of some kind into the story line for the physical world. In different words, we write the story of our lives and the future of the world. The problem, however, is that the deep truth of quantum theory has still not penetrated the mindscape of the modern world....more5minPlay
October 13, 2017Conversations Beyond Science And Religion – The Internally Generated WorldThe consequences of quantum theory, even after a century, have still not permeated our consciousness, or the very field that discovered it: physics. Professor Richard Conn Henry, a guest on my show in 2014, observed in an article that he published in Nature Magazine, entitled, The Mental Universe, that the world we live in consists not of things, only observations. But what does this mean? One answer is that we are observing ourselves in the midst of an internally-generated world....more4minPlay

October 06, 2017Conversations Beyond Science And Religion – Sir James Jean & Max PlanckThe world needs a vision and for a vision we will need a Mind. As the physicist, Sir James Jeans, said almost a century ago, "today there is a wide measure of agreement, which on the physical side of science approaches almost to unanimity, that the stream of knowledge is heading towards a non-mechanical reality; the universe begins to look more like a great thought than a great machine." And then, as Max Planck, the founder of quantum theory, said, "mind is the matrix of all reality." Quantum theory shows the physical world is made not of things, but of mind-stuff. So the problem is that we are at essence a Mind, and the goal becomes to understand and accept this fact and then with this knowledge, dream bigger....more4minPlay
