Season 2 of Conversations in Podiatry kicks off with ACPM President Dr. Gary Rothenberg introducing the show’s new host, Dr. Paul Wilson, a podiatric physician at GraceMed, a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Wichita, Kansas.
Dr. Wilson shares his unconventional path into podiatric medicine. He started in EMS and law enforcement, was redirected after applying to osteopathic medical school, trained at Des Moines University and Truman Medical Center, and went on to write general medicine questions for the ABPM board exam.
In this episode:
• Why mastering the fundamentals matters, even in the age of AI
• “Diagnosis precedes treatment” and how a consistent exam leads to better outcomes
• How a career in emergency services built the soft skills used in patient care
• What an FQHC is and how to care for medically complex, underserved patients
• Dr. Wilson’s vision for the podcast and ACPM’s mission for students through seasoned practitioners
