BIO: Neil Kitching is a geographer and energy specialist from Scotland. He has written his first book, Carbon Choices on the common-sense solutions to our climate and nature crises. BIO: I was born in #Miami when my father was a student at the University of Miami. We moved to NYC when I was 1 when Dad became editor-in-chief of a powerful movie magazine. I inherited my writing dreams from my father. Years later, my parents retired in Miami. My sister still lives there. I suffer when I hear of my home town's current and future climate problems. I moved to Albany, NY, at 6. I loved playing in snow from Sept to March. I've now lived in the Washington, DC, area since I was 12. I began writing fiction when I was seven. I studied writing under the University of Maryland’s writer-in-residence J. R. Salamanca. I participated in The Vicious Circle, a brutal writer’s workshop, for many years. At the age of 22, I had a short novel of mine published by Ballantine Books, a subsidiary of Random House.

As research for this novel, I educated myself in climate science, sustainability, and climate politics. I created a website and blog (with 33 blog entries so far), and connected with 33,000 climate scientists, activists, attorneys, and economists. My connections include Dr. James E. Hansen, Dr. Michael Mann, Michael Regan (of EPA), Jennifer Granholm (Secretary of Energy), Chris Cuomo, Tom Steyer, Leonardo DiCaprio, Rachel Pritzker, and many others. I correspond occasionally over personal email with Hansen and DiCaprio.I recently completed and printed an early draft of my novel and am editing it on hard-copy for the first time. It is coming along far better than I ever dreamed possible.

BIO: Based in biodiversity-rich Ecuador, Alan wears several hats: he is an author-illustrator, an educator and a conservation biologist. Alan’s work is inspired by the majesty and fragility of nature and the need to do everything we can to protect it.

The New Jersey Digital Newspaper Project (NJDNP) is a collaboration of the Rutgers University Libraries, the New Jersey State Archives and the New Jersey State Library. It draws upon the strengths of these three institutions. Rutgers will manage the project and provide all technical support. The New Jersey State Archives houses nearly 600 newspaper titles in microfilm and provides microfilm masters and use copies for all papers to be digitized. The New Jersey State Library leads the documentation and outreach about the titles selected. At least 300,000 pages will be digitized and cataloged to specifications within the six-year project time frame. We hope you follow the project’s progression with interest. My name is Ashton Smith, a Gold Medalist in Swimming in the arena of the disabled. I’ve had the privilege of competing in the World Games, Dubai and in Seattle, at a National US Games. It is a unique honor and I am truly blessed to have accomplished that feat, which is especially amazing since I am a legally blind African-American female. Many things stick out in my journey from hometown hero to homeless, world-class gold medalist despite having a limiting disability. My road to greatness started when I was nine years old. As a “Differently Abled” person, I found myself being left out of events, overlooked, and under picked. To say it caused inner trauma would be putting it mild. I learned to cope by escaping into swimming, which can be a team sport or an individual one. I found myself at the YMCA in Waxahachie almost daily. Once I discovered the water, I was naturally drawn to it. It’s a myth that Black people can’t swim. The truth is, there are not enough aquatic facilities in black communities. Once the staff at the Y saw I loved to swim, they encouraged, empowered, and enabled me to train and blossom into that youth capable enough to capture a spot on the Special Olympics team. Most people have an erroneous perception of that organization. There are varying levels of completeness involved, and one of the underlying reasons for their existence is to assist athletes that are disadvantaged for any number of reasons. My blindness afforded me the opportunity of competing as a swimmer for the organization. I would like to, moving forward, monetize my historic winning and completion from the Organization. The restrictions and limitations that are in place make it almost impossible for an athlete to capitalize on their brand while still a member of that organization. However, now that I have severed ties, my plan is to make sure that I have a podcast. My second hope is to get my book written, published, and promoted. I am seeing that happen right before my eyes (pun intended).

Amy Dong is a twenty-two year old Fulbright Scholar and author whose writing career took off in 2014 when a personal essay she wrote received national acclaim from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. After a second award in 2016, a trip to Carnegie Hall, and a publication in Scholastic's Best Teen Writing of 2016, she went on to work as a magazine editor, curriculum designer, and freelance writer during her studies at New York University.

Of her four years at NYU, Amy spent only two of them in New York. She spent the rest of the time studying abroad in Prague and Singapore, taking a gap semester to recover from a near-death experience, and traveling across 5 continents and 25 countries before the global COVID-19 pandemic brought her home to Houston again. To reflect on the unexpected realities of growing up, and to make sense of their most raw and intimate moments, Amy kept writing through it all.

​Following graduation, Amy served as a Fulbright Scholar teaching English in Taiwan. After completing her grant, she moved back to New York to pursue her interests in education, launch her young adult life coaching program The LIFE Project, and record her audiobook.
