Today I help my daughter figure out how to overcome the challenge of managing friendships. As a 3rd grader, this is the developmentally appropriate age to struggle with managing friendships. Erik Erikson says that around this age kids are trying to figure out Industry vs Inferiority, and this happens as they take on challenges at school as well as figuring out the social hierarchies and where they land. It is not always easy to figure this out and this podcast is an attempt to model this conversation as well as help parents and kids understand the true nature of this struggle. This struggle often hits kids in different ways, some struggle with confidence, some struggle in school, some worry about all sorts of other dilemmas. This is my daughter's story and the way in which this struggle hits her and a great example of what it means when I say "the problem is never the true problem".
