Paul Anthony Cook was the former drummer with the iconic 80’s band Sade and this is his story of the highs and lows of being in a band that was the next big thing. With Paul being sacked just before the release of the massive 1984 album Diamond Life, we look at the rise, fall and legal fallouts of being in a band that sold millions. This journey takes us from 1979 to the present day.

The band Sade hits the big time with its million selling album Diamond Life, but despite one final turn on Top of the Pops, Paul is out of the band and it is nearly 10 years later he gets told he could be entitled to royalties. And it’s here the legal story starts.

Growing in popularity on the underground scene we see the band Sade enter the studio to record what was to become the album Diamond Life. Paul is set to be a drummer in a band that was to be the next big thing, but is dropped before the album is released. And bang goes the dream.

We meet up with Paul in his home town of Hull and get the lead up to the formation of the band Sade and Paul’s involvement in creating the Neo Soul sound that would permeate the 80’s pop scene, and continue to influence to this day.
