Cooler Than Homework

This movie wasn't *quite* what Ceri guessed, but to her credit, she was a little closer than usual. This week we're talking about what Miracle in Lane 2 was actually about, whether or not it made us cry, and some of our other favorite sibling rivalries.

In this episode we talked about a fun surfing movie, figured out how we knew who Camilla Belle is, learned some more about Team Earth's thorough commitment to being petty, and shared some stories about our parents and grandparents.

Sadly this movie was not about a rival gang of dumpster diving teens, but instead is about some kids who love to bowl and a cross-town rivalry. This week we're talking all about Alley Cats Strike, and our own unique hobbies.

In a fortunate coincidence, we are uploading this week's episode the same week as its film's 20th anniversary! The Color of Friendship is inspired by a true story and is the first DCOM to win an Emmy. Find out whether the film holds up and whether it gave us all the feelings.

True to Ceri's second guess, Up, Up, and Away! is indeed a movie about a boy with a superhero family learning how to save the day as a regular boy. This week we're talking about this charming family of superheroes and some of our other favorite superhero stories as well.

It's the final DCOM of the 90s, our final episode of 2019, AND the first DCOM with the Lawrence Brothers. This week we chat about Horse Sense, which takes place in Montana, where 3/4 of us happen to live, so we decided to take this opportunity to end the year by talking about our first impressions of this state.

Only 1/4 of us remembers this film about imaginary friends and bogeymen, but we had a lot of feelings about the experience as an adult. This movie about adults not believing our child heroine also prompted us to talk about some tropes we try to avoid.

As the tagline promises, this is a movie in which Genius Charlie Boyle has to "add another side to himself" to fit in. We had high hopes of that being some science magic, but it's really just about adding a part of you where you're really disruptive and a liar! We had a lot of feelings about Genius and about some other stories that do double lives that we kind of wished we had watched instead.

Johnny Tsunami is sadly not the wild Moana-meets-Frozen journey that Ceri took us on last time, but this movie about a surfer boy from Hawaii forced to move to snowy Vermont DID turn out to be somebody's favorite DCOM. Find out whose favorite movie this is, as well as some of our other favorite stories about runaway kids.

After Ceri's incredible highs-and-lows guess last time, we watched Smart House and marveled both at the oddly specific things she identified and also at how much fun this movie is, 20 years later. We also talk about all the other cool things we've seen in media that we wish we could have in our daily lives.
