God sent His Son, Jesus, for us as the greatest gift we could ever know.

        A NIGHT OF INTERVENTION

        • Many times, in man’s history, God has intervened; the flood, Sodom; but never has He intervened like this.
        •
          • There were:
            • Plans - Isaiah 7:14 ~ “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
            • Promises - Genesis 49:10 ~ “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”
              • An interesting thing now happened in the prophetic blessing pronounced over Judah.
              • In that day and time, a father’s birthright included a double portion of the inheritance and the leadership of the family.
              • But in the case of the patriarchs—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—it also included God’s promise of the very special promised seed, the Savior of the world.
              • Preparation
                • God prepared a woman.
                • Luke 1:26–27 ~ “26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary.”
                • Person
                  • When everything was right, God sent our Savior into a stable
                  • Luke 2:6–7 ~ “6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”
                  •

                    A NIGHT OF INSPIRATION

                    • God was inspired to send - John 3:16 ~ “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
                    •
                      • Angels were inspired to sing - Luke 2:13–14 ~ “13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!””
                      •
                        • Wise Men were inspired to sacrifice - Matthew 2:1–2 ~ “1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.””
                        •
                          • Shepherds were inspired to search - Luke 2:15 ~ “When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.””
                          •
                            • Millions have been inspired to serve.
                            •

                              A NIGHT OF INSTRUCTIONS

Truth: Christ's Sacrificial death on the cross secured our eternal salvation.
Focus: Acknowledge God values humans and appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our salvation.
Emphasis: Christ offers new birth through the Holy Spirit.

Golden Text: John 3:14 (ESV) ~ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

Sermon Outline for Sunday, November 30, 2025
The Spiritual Life of the Believer
                                    Passages: Romans 8:1; Romans 8:34; Romans 8:33; Romans 8:28; Romans 8:37; Romans 8:32; Romans 8:38–39; Romans 8:2–4; Romans 8:12–17; Romans 8:18; Romans 8:31; Romans 8:37; Romans 8:38

This is one of the best-loved chapters in the Bible. It is the gem of the great Book of Romans. It is one of the grand spiritual chapters of the Bible. “The Spirit” is referred to no less than 19 times. There is a contrast presented between the old man and the new man, the dominion of the law and the dominion of the Spirit, being in the flesh and being in Christ, a wretched man and a justified man, the bondage of sin and the liberty of the Spirit. This chapter depicts the spiritual life of the believer from beginning to completion.

Paul describes the progress of the believer’s spiritual life in three great scriptural doctrines.

Justification - the Position of the Believer

Romans 8:1 ~ “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

The beginning of the Spiritual Life
If you will remember last week, I stated that we needed to be IN CHRIST. You either IN or you are OUT!

                                    • Our Spiritual Life begins IN CHRIST.
                                      • Raised to a new position by regeneration IN CHRIST
                                      • Handed a new freedom by justification - no condemnation
                                      •
                                        • New life is lived IN CHRIST
                                          • In Christ - no condemnation - (Romans 8:34 ~ “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”)
                                          • In Christ - no charge or judgment - (Romans 8:33 ~ “Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.”)
                                          • In Christ - no failure or doubt - (Romans 8:28 ~ “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”)
                                          • In Christ - no defeat - (Romans 8:37 ~ “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”)
                                          • In Christ - no want - (Romans 8:32 ~ “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”)
                                          • In Christ - no separation (Romans 8:38–39 ~ “38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”)

Sanctification - the Privilege of the Believer

                                            Living the Spiritual Life

Romans 8:2–4 ~ “2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

                                            • The experience of sanctification is God’s part
                                              • The law of sin and death
                                              • The law of the Spirit of life
                                              •
Romans 8:12–17 “12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

                                                • The life of holiness is the believer’s part
                                                  • Believers are in debt to the Spirit, not to the flesh. The word debtors means to be obligated, to owe, to be bound by some duty.
                                                    • Believers are not in “debt” to the flesh. The flesh has done nothing for man, nothing of real value.
                                                    • Believers are in debt to the Spirit. It is the Spirit who has done so much for man, the Spirit to whom we are so indebted.
                                                    • The Spirit of God ...
                                                      • is the Spirit of life
                                                      • has freed us from sin and death
                                                      • fulfills righteousness IN us
                                                      • pulls our minds to spiritual things
                                                      • gives us life and peace
                                                      • dwells within us, removing us from the flesh and identifying us as being IN CHRIST
                                                      • gives life to our spirits now and assures us that He will give life to our mortal bodies in the great day of redemption
                                                      •

                                                            • More than confident (Romans 8:38 ~ “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,”)

This passage of Scripture begins with no condemnation and ends with no separation (from conversion to glory), begins in Christ and ends in heaven (from justified to glorified, from regenerated to raptured). The spiritual life is one filled with the love of Christ, the power of the Spirit, and the hope of heaven.

Emphasis: Living to please God is essential to effective witnessing.

                                                                  Count Your Blessings

In Philippians 4, we have seven “blessings” pointed out to us by Paul.

                                                                  • POSITION
                                                                    • Philippians 1:1 ~ “Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:”
                                                                    • Philippians 4:1 ~ “Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.”
                                                                    • In Philippians 1:1, Paul speaks about “the saints in Christ Jesus.” The little word “in” is used many times in the Word of God. Paul used it in this first verse. It suggests the believer’s position in Christ. God’s Word divides men into two classes. Men are either in Christ or they are out of Christ.
                                                                    •
                                                                      • PRAISE
                                                                        • Philippians 4:4 ~ “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.”
                                                                        • If the Lord Jesus Christ has saved us, and our names have been written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, we have an occasion to rejoice with “joy unspeakable and full of glory”.
                                                                        •
                                                                          • PRAYER
                                                                            • Philippians 4:6 ~ “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
                                                                            • This is the greatest blessing of all. No one outside of Christ can experience and enjoy the ministry of prayer. Prayer is the blessing of the child of God. What a comfort it is to know that we can commit everything into His hands. We have the privilege of trusting Him for all things.
                                                                            •
                                                                              • PEACE
                                                                                • Philippians 4:7 ~ “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
                                                                                • The wicked have no peace. Peace comes by Christ through His death on the cross of Calvary.
                                                                                •
                                                                                  • PRESENCE
                                                                                    • Philippians 4:9 ~ “What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
                                                                                    • The presence of God is with us day by day. In the hour of trouble, trial, and tribulation He is with us. Our God hath declared that He will “never leave us nor forsake us”.
                                                                                    •

                                                                                        • Philippians 4:13 ~ “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
                                                                                        • John 15:5 ~ “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
                                                                                        • We are nothing in and of ourselves; we are utterly helpless.
                                                                                        •

                                                                                            • The God who provided salvation for us, in the person of His own Son, has promised to provide for our every need.
