A coping mechanism is our automatic response to how we deal with a lot of emotions. We all get overwhelmed in life and we have to be disciplined to choose a higher vibrational coping mechanism so we are not participating in self-destructive habits. 

Choosing a better coping mechanism is a huge part of practicing self-love. Doing the hard thing now is helping and benefiting your future self.
