The church is supposed to be a refuge for the hurting. The church, however, cannot thrive in this duty if it is inept in caring for those who struggle with racialized trauma. As a biblical counselor, I think racialized trauma is one of the most neglected areas of soul care within the majority culture church. In most cases, the very concept is foreign to those who serve in shepherding capacities. Join me in this episode as I discuss what Racialized Trauma is, how it is perpetuated by many within the church, and what the church can to do minister to those who suffer.
Trauma: a very difficult or unpleasant experience that causes someone to have mental or emotional problems usually for a long time. (Webster)
Racialization: In sociology, racialization or ethnicization is the processes of ascribing ethnic or racial identities to a relationship, social practice, or group that did not identify itself as such. Racialization and ethnicization is often born out of the interaction of a group with a group that it dominates and ascribes identity for the purpose of continued domination.
