Corrine Kalesse is a devoted doula in the greater Cottage Grove area and her work is changing in the time of COVID. Hospitals are not as hospitable, and the centuries long struggle over reproduction continues. If we are not returning to normal--and we are not--then we have to consider every aspect of life. A wise man once said that "he not busy being born is busy dying," but it seems that that nobel laureate may not have considered the role of the doula who is busy supporting birth.
Josh opens with a slew of random remarks including the outrageous claim that 1/3 of humanity now listens to this podcast. He took great effort to constrain himself from busting out in a full fledged historical lecture. A few minutes, however, suffice to cover the history of reproduction from the Black Plague to the early modern period. For more information, please read "Caliban and the Witch" by Silvia Federici (do look her up on youtube). In any case, enjoy, and don't forget to give feedback somehow. We're desperately insecure and want to know what you think.
