Ariel isn't the only mermaid out there. In popular culture, mermaids have become known as beautiful, magical creatures of the sea. They are most commonly depicted as being half human and half fish, with the torso of that of a gorgeous woman and a long flowing fabulous fish tale. As stated, they are magical, mystical, and sing beautifully. Whether this is to entice sailors to their pleasure or their demise is the question and varies depending on which myth you subscribe to. Almost every culture on Earth has their own mermaid, and sometimes, these myths will conflict with what we typically imagine when we think about mermaids. Today, we talk about mermaid origins and different mermaid lore from around the world....and a Kappa?

Disney has a way of melting your heart and bringing families together. But the true stories behind Disney's classics aren't as heartwarming as they are in the movies. In fact, these stories are a lot darker and were meant to teach morals using illustration and wild fantasies. Today we will be talking about the original, often gruesome fairy tales that inspired some of Disney's most beloved classics.
