As a little girl, I remember walking to the bottom of our hill, just a street over from my families home to the market on the corner. A safe-haven in a changing neighborhood where everyone knew each other. That store closed a long time ago, but was my first taste of a neighborhood market. Over the years, many corner stores evolved from mom and pop community hubs that sold healthy foods into corporate owned convenience stores selling junk food. Nuts ‘n Berries has evolved many times over the past 40 years, and today we stand proud as Brookhaven’s neighborhood market, on the corner of Peachtree and Kendrick.
The revitalization of the corner store in our community is much bigger than our story. It comprises the stories of small businesses, local food makers and some of the most passionate people in the greater Metro Atlanta. In today's episode, I spoke with Kevin Mobley, owner of Anna Bell's Mac and Cheese. We sell his product in our store and let me tell you -- it is absolutely delicious! Kevin uses the best organic ingredients possible and uses the famous Hyatt Regency, also known as the Hotel of Hope, to produce his amazing mac and cheese. His story is very unique and it is truly amazing how he took his grandma's beloved mac and cheese recipe and started an inspirational business.
