Andy Vecellio • John 3:9-18, Numbers 21:4-10 • In chapter 3 of the Gospel of John, we are presented with an account of the interaction between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Sanhedrin. John records that during the interaction, Jesus compares Himself to a "serpent in the wilderness" that was lifted by Moses, which is in reference to an event that is described in Numbers chapter 21. Careful examination of the event in Numbers 21 provides another Old Testament foreshadow of the life, ministry, and purpose of Jesus Christ.
