People get hard hearts for a variety of reasons—sometimes because of SIN, and they have become hardened toward God; sometimes because of a DIFFICULT LIFE, and they have decided to build a hard, exterior shell around their heart so no one can get it; sometimes because of the fear of being VULNERABLE, and they have decided that it’s easier to hurt others before being hurt again; and sometimes because of PRIDE, and they have determined to be “tough” and “independent” without the need for God or others. Whatever the reason, God is in the business of healing hard hearts and making them tender again. Won’t you open yours up for God to do a little heart surgery today?

David said in Psalm 13:2, “How long must I wrestle with my thoughts?” Do you ever feel like that? Is your thought life something that is pleasing to God or displeasing to him? God knows our thoughts and desires that we think on things that bring glory and honor to Him. We are living in a time when it is easier to blame others than to take personal responsibility for something. Blame-shifting has been going on since the beginning of human history. When God confronted Adam and Eve about their disobedience, Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. The theology of responsibility is simply this—every person is accountable to God for his/her own life. We cannot blame others or make excuses for our behavior or our lives. “Responsibility” is from two words—response and ability: the ability to choose a response that no longer blames others or makes excuses for one’s actions. Only then can we turn to God with humility and repentance and find His mercy and forgiveness.

On Easter we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! When He appeared to His disciples on that first day, the first thing He said to them was, “Peace be with you!” He repeated it two more times. Why did Jesus choose to emphasize “peace” three times?
