Ancient city gates were more than just points of entry or exit. They served to be a very strategic center of life where elders gathered to settle disputes and plan for war; where trade occurred; where court was held; where a number of things transpired. Each gate was named and each gate had a purpose. These purposes have a modern parallel for us today. With that in mind, Pastor Gary will be teaching a series of messages about "examining the gates of our lives."

In the opening chapter of Nehemiah, we see Nehemiah weeping, mourning, fasting, and praying. He is heart-broken over the condition of his fellow Jews living in "trouble and disgrace." So he puts his grief to work and rolls up his sleeves to help them in their broken condition. It serves as an example to us about being a church that helps those who are troubled and disgraced. May we be an extension of Jesus' love and grace in our world!
