Intro
The first and most important thing we pray for ...
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love. (v1)
1. We need Mercy (v1-2)
Mercy: to bend or stoop in kindness to an inferior
Transgression: to cross the line / mark in the book
Iniquity: to be twisted / warped
Sin: to miss the mark/goal
2. We need Responsibility (v3-6)
No excuses, rationalizing, blaming - “I know” … “I have”.
Perspective (v4): sin against others, self (1 Cor 6:18), but God!
Recognition of original sin (v5) and need for deep change (v6)
3. We need Cleansing (v7-12)
v7. Hyssop: blood on doors (Exodus 12:22), purifying (Numbers 19:18).
v8. Joy instead of mourning (Isaiah 61:3)
v10. Create – as in Genesis – a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26)
4. We need Motivation (v13-19)
humbly helping sinners.
Forgiveness inspires worship
Hatred for offerings from impure heart (Isaiah 1:11-18)
Heart for church, community, nation.

Intro
Do not fret. – the Hebrew word Charah is translated do not burn with anger. It is repeated 3 times in verses 1, 7, 8.
1. 5 elements of trust (v3-8)
a. trust in the Lord (v3)
b. Take Delight in the Lord (v4)
c. Commit your way to the Lord (v5)
d. Be still before the Lord (v7)
e. Refrain from Anger (v8)
2. Look up and look ahead (v9-11)
Sometimes we can become so fixated on the present moment that we forget to see the bigger picture. We need to look ahead at what’s to come and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.
3. Blessed are the meek (v11)
1 Peter 2:23 Jesus is our ultimate example of meekness “When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”
Finally – Trust in God More than us trusting God for things, He wants us to trust in Him. He wants us to cast our anxieties, our fragility and brokenness on Him and to trust him with that because he cares for us. 1 Peter 5:7

Intro
We want to be in God’s presence – experience His presence
Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. (v6)

1. We have His presence (v1-2)
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, for he founded it … established it …
An owner cares for their business!

2. We may enter His presence (v3-6)
Who may ascend the mountain? … Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart …
Psalm 15 expands on “clean hands” (v5)
Matthew 5:8. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

3. We must seek His presence (v7-10)
Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Finally – it’s all about Jesus
He wrestled His way up the mountain. He went before us, He opened the way
He had clean hands and a pure heart. He is our Saviour, our vindication
He is our King of Glory, entering our world

Wisdom comes from Revelation – God’s Word
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple (v7)

1. General Revelation – Skies (v1-6)
Continuous (v2) Abundant (v2) Universal (v4)
Romans 1:19-20. since what may be known about God is plain …
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities - his eternal power and
divine nature - have been clearly seen …

2. Special Revelation – Scriptures (v7-9)
Proverbs 1:8. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
v7. The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

3. Personal Revelation – Spirit (v10-13)
Jeremiah 17:9. The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
1 Corinthians 2:10-11. these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit …
Finally – Personal Prayer (v14)
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Intro
Having a hook in you, when the other person caused the pain.
v35. forgive your brother or sister from your heart.

1. Unforgiveness is bondage. Matthew 18:21-35
Context – dealing with grievances among Christians
v21-22. How many times forgive? Seven? Seventy Seven.
v24,28. 20 years pay; one day’s pay.
v25,29. Response identical – knees and patience.
v33. Key word – MERCY. “Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant
just as I had on you?”
v34. Symbolism – Jail and Torment
Forgiving ourselves - - - Oaths & Curses - - - Deep Wounds
Being straight. v35. This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you
forgive your brother or sister from your heart.

2. Forgiveness is not optional. Matthew 6:9-15
The Lord’s Prayer. v12. forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Command. Not recommended, advice, suggestion.
Meaning. More about life now than future.
Disclaimers. It’s a process, may not be a friend etc.
Romans 12:18-19. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s
wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

Lamentations 3:24. The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him. SEEKING NOT WORRYING – Matthew 6:25-33 v25. Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life … v27. Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? v30. you of little faith?V33. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
VICTORY NOT ESCAPE – John 14:27, 16:33
