  • Acts: To the End of the Earth // Our Life as a Witness
There may not be a more exciting book in the bible than Acts. It is like having an embedded reporter there at the birth of the church and all through her rapid expansion. That is in fact, what we have as Luke carefully recorded the history of the church, beginning with the final words of Jesus before He returned to His Father: ‘you will be My witnesses...to the end of the earth.’ (Acts 1:8). It is a world-wide mission that we have, and as we will see, it is a mission that cannot be stopped. But it can be slowed. Not by outside forces so much as internal apathy and complacency within the church. The church must wake up and get on the move and live out the mission we have been given. This hard-hitting series will challenge us to get moving, to be the invincible church all the way to the end of the earth.

  • The Christmas Carols // A New Song
It’s Christmas time again, which for many is the most wonderful time of the year. A time that we celebrate the birth of Jesus, give and receive gifts, and sing. We sing Christmas songs called carols. In fact, many people still go caroling. Have you ever wondered what a ‘Carol’ even is? It is more than a baby’s name, it is a word for a song of praise and joy. Here at Cornerstone, we love to sing. And we will be celebrating with songs of praise and joy, with Christmas carols, many of which have some incredibly wonderful lyrics.
Take for instance this verse from the oddly titled song, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen:
“Fear not then, said the Angel
    Let nothing you affright
This day is born a Savior
    Of a pure Virgin bright
To free all those who trust in Him
    From Satan's pow'r and might
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
    Comfort and joy
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
What a powerful, Christ-exalting song of praise and joy...a Christmas Carol. This Advent season, we will be looking at the original Christmas Carols, the ones from the bible. We will learn the carols that were written and sung by Elizabeth, Mary, Zechariah, an angel, Simeon, and a special one you may not be familiar with. Come join us as we learn to sing these songs from our hearts and witness of Jesus Christ to the end of the earth!
