Cornerstone Conversations

It’s the SEASON 1 FINALE and I’VE GOT SOME FEELINGS. I feel since I won’t be posting up any episodes on the Festivus, so I figure NOW would be a good time to air my grievances (Seinfeld fans know what’s up). I’ve learned a lot in these talks and I know I haven’t even scratched the surface. I CANNOT WAIT for you to hear what’s coming up in Season 2. Some of you like my solo convo tangents so buckle up. I was really excited about this convo, for the fact that I know I don’t know nearly enough about this as I should. Especially teaching cultural competency so I was grateful to sit down with him and dissect the implicit biases that exist in society as well as myself. He broke down what ableism looks like, where these discussions could best serve in education for future healthcare professionals, and what we can all do today to fight ableism. He gave some great activists followers on social media and recommended the book Disability Visibility for anyone looking to begin or further their awareness in ableism. This is my call to action to change my algorithm.

I was brought to tears in this conversation that you are about to listen to. I love what I do. I hope to do more of it for a long time. Sarah is a Licensed Guidance Counselor/ School Social Worker/ School Adjustment Counselor with SEI Endorsement, podcaster extraordinaire. Her methodology and practice building relationships with students through speaking her truth which in turn give them permission to speak theirs. She hosts her own podcast call Leading Passionately where she seeks to answer 2 questions: what makes a good leader? And what does it mean to lead passionately? (I flipped the script on her…. You’ll get to hear her answer on that). She’s well on her way to changing the world; her students and colleagues are very lucky to have her.

Today I sat down with Senior Logistics NCO Sergeant First Class Robert Chadwick. On paper this friendship wouldn’t make sense to most... which is why it makes total sense for us to have this conversation. Robert holds his Masters of Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and is pursuing a doctorate in Business Administration, which aligns really well with what he does in the Army. He also works alongside his wife, Jasmine as founders and creators of the minority owned and veteran operated apparel company Oyster Rock Apparel. (High possibility you will get to meet Jasmaine on here at some point) . In the episode he answers my questions about the Army’s inner workings, what makes an effective manager, and he drops some solid life advice for engaging in conversations with people who may not necessarily have the same opinion and what you should do to make your voice heard in your community.
