The Battle Hymn of the Republic has become one of the most revered patriotic songs. A close study of the lyrics shows a Christ who calls people to spread the gospel because "Our God is marching

on." In Acts 1 we find elements of a Christ-follower's marching orders.

Christ-followers are to display their good works for others to see and glorify the Father (Matt. 5:16). In this way our discipleship is a channel to bring others to Christ. But our good deeds must also be in secret so that they are backed up by an internal reality.

Many parables are drawn from the relationship of father to the son. God’s very own nature was described through such parables. The character and identity of God the Father is very clearly depicted throughout the Bible. The key instructions given to the fathers will determine not only of the present surroundings, but also the outcome of the future that is to come.

However, we will continue to find numerous accounts found in the Bible that emphasize the mandate of belonging to one another, even to a godly community. Many accounts of devout believer’s practice of fasting has been shared throughout the church history. The practice of fasting seems to be reserved only for the seasoned and selected few. However, the occurrences of fasting found in the Bible appear to be suggesting a different understanding of the practice. What is fasting? How are we to engage in fasting?
