The book of Joel issues a foreboding message of warning, describing a locust invasion as a harbinger of God's imminent judgment. Yet amidst the gloom, Joel offers the hope of restoration. Through the contrasting themes of impending destruction and the promise of God's restorative grace, Joel calls the people to repentance in light of the coming Day of the Lord.

The book of Hosea powerfully illustrates God's relentless, "expensive" love for His spiritually adulterous people, exemplified in Hosea's own marriage to Gomer. Though spiritual adultery and sin provokes God's anger, His transformative love offers forgiveness and mercy to those who return to Him, foreshadowing the work of Jesus Christ to reconcile His people to Himself.

We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave, conquering death once and for all. Jesus's miraculous raising of Lazarus in John 11 foreshadowed His own resurrection, providing hope that in Christ, we too will experience eternal life.

Jesus calls every Christian to abide or remain vitally connected to Him, the true vine, in order to bear lasting fruit. As we go into the world abiding in Christ's love, our fruitful lives will reveal our true discipleship and the source of our joy - Christ Himself.

Jesus in John 14 declares how He is the exclusive way, truth and life - the only path to God the Father is through His atoning sacrifice on the cross. As we face this world's troubles, we can set our minds on the glorious reality that awaits us in heaven with Jesus. In troubling times, Jesus prescribes belief in His promises about heaven - there is room for us in the Father's house, He is preparing a place, and He will come again to take us home to be with Him forever.

While Moses and David both shepherded God's people, Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment as the good shepherd who intimately knows and cares for His sheep. As the prophets foretold, Jesus shepherds with both authority and gentleness - He laid down His life for the sheep to bring them into one flock.

Jesus declared in John 10 that He is the true shepherd whose sheep hear His voice and that He is the door to abundant life - vibrant spiritual health, robust joy, and untouchable freedom.

God is never indifferent about the suffering of His people, and as the good shepherd, Jesus will hold people accountable for how they treat His flock.

Jesus identifies Himself as the one who makes covenant promises to Abraham. In this passage of John 8, there are three main covenant promises Jesus will bring. Jesus brings a new freedom, a new Father, and will bring a new future.

Who is Jesus? To answer that question we are going to look at seven statements that Jesus makes about Himself throughout the book of John.
