You are connected to Jesus who heals and raises the dead. You may not experience it now, but there is a resurrection. This is good news, peace, for all of us!

Luke 3:1-14

As we look at the world around us, and even sometimes in our own lives, it can be hard to expect much peace. Our reading for today about an increasingly chaotic world seems to back that up. But the promise of Advent--of Jesus coming into the world--is that we can expect peace no matter what is happening around us because God's plan has been, and still is, in motion.

This is a good day to celebrate. We launched Fishers and Indy on this day. God has done great things for us. It is also the last day of the church year -- Christ the King Sunday. We celebrate that "reason." God will come again to call his people home.

Regardless of what happens in elections at any level, some of us will be disappointed and the others will be joyful. As followers of Jesus, our call is not to take one side or the other but to live in ways that promote peace.

The Bible doesn’t answer most questions, and it doesn’t try to. This is a limit for us but there is freedom in it as well: We can discuss and reason, and nothing of our faith or identity is on the line. As followers of Jesus, we use the reasoning and faculties God has blessed us with, but don’t use scripture as a weapon.

An election is coming. Whatever happens, two things are true: God remains in control; and he is working a plan much bigger than this. This matters, but there is more. As followers of Jesus, we look toward God’s ultimate plan and trust in his control of what goes on here.

How did you get here? Regardless of how you came to it, your faith is the result of someone (maybe lots of people) who passed it on or shared it with you. None of us can do this alone...and we aren't alone! God gives us a community of believers along with His spirit to help us stand firm in faith.
