Several cities and states that have recently enacted bans on plastic bags are rescinding them or putting them on hold in response to the threats reusable bags pose to public health during the coronavirus pandemic. The truth is plastic bags are safer, sturdier, use less energy and other resources than paper or reusable bags and the bans were always a bad idea. After the pandemic has passed, for the sake of public health and the environment, cities and states should bring back plastic bags altogether.
