📚 ABOUT DANIELLE CHIEL 📚 Founder and Director Knit One Change One, Handknits Pty Ltd (Australia) & DC AJ Textures Private Ltd (India), Location, Sydney, NSW, Australia KOCO, KnitOne (garment) ChangeOne (life) is a partnership with women who live in rural villages of Tamil Nadu, India and hand-knits for fashion brands around the world. Under her able leadership, KOCO has earned a B Corp Certification, which recognises it’s a commitment to the highest social and environmental standards. In India, this means KOCO will be hand-knitting 1,000,000 garments each year and will have changed the lives of thousands of women and their families. Each rural woman is educated in the art and science of hand knitting, as well as reading English and mathematics. KOCO’s knitters are supported and encouraged each day and this creates in the women as they awaken to their skills and self-worth by earning an independent income. As Director of KOCO, Danielle also makes a difference. through sustainable and ethical Women and Progress (WAP) venture overseen by her Indian company, aiming to develop the economic independence of rural Indian women through engaging them to knit for her label. Through her years of experience and industry knowledge, she proudly stands and believes that the history of Indian handwork and textiles is synonymous with the highest standard of artisan craftsmanship. The rural village women in India, whom Danielle engages, are continuing this tradition of high-quality craftsmanship under her expert tuition and guidance. The income the women earn from their knitting sustains their traditional lifestyle and generally contributes to enriching their lives and the lives of their families. After a career in music teaching and academia (She has a PhD in Musicology), Danielle followed her passion for hand-knitting by opening and developing Threads & More (Brisbane), which went on to become one of Australia’s largest independent retail knitting stores.
