Correlation is not causation, nor is it a justifiable base for conspiracy theory. This fallacy, perhaps more than any other, along with post hoc, ergo propter hoc, now drives conspiracy research in all of its forms by using the tools of conjecture and anecdotal story telling to sell a narrative within the paradigm of what is considered ‘belief’ or ‘skepticism’. Whether politics, religion, ufology, paranormal, conspiracy, etc., these group thinking echo-chambers combat objective analysis and allow marketers and psychologists to get the upper hand.
