Corsica One

I am extremely pleased to share a guest mix exclusively recorded for Corsica One listeners by ethno-ambient master Ujjaya.

Ujjaya is a French multi-instrumentalist with Malagasy roots, whose style is a reflection of his yoga practice and spiritual peregrinations across Asia. I was introduced to his music on a Sunday afternoon in 2017 when I stumbled upon him playing in the shadow of the biggest Buddha statue in Europe, in the mystical great Pagode of Paris. I was captivated by the clever combination of electronic and natural sounds (Ujjaya plays more than a hundred ethnic and rare instruments) with field recordings and percussion samples, and the stage setup itself was mesmerizing (certainly the location played an important part in it).

After having consumed much of his discography (one of his compositions also appears in my Lost Tapes from Nubra session), I was delighted to get his approval to record an exclusive session for Corsica One listeners. And what a treat! The first half of the mix is composed of two live recordings dating back to 2008, Kyilkhor and Bardo, while the second half contains previously unheard music from 2018.

Learn more about Ujjaya here and tune in to his Soundcloud page for more music.

Ujjaya will be playing on July 28th at the chapel of Élancourt.
