The modern day cattle mutilation mystery started with a horse named Lady.  The horrific scene would lead to speculation of the involvement of aliens, government agents and satanic cults.  Surgical cuts, missing organs and an unusual placement of carcasses devoid of any footprints, human or otherwise, in the nearby surrounds would only add fuel to the fire that something was amiss.  Eventually, a Senator, the FBI, Airforce, journalist, and prisoners at the infamous Leavenworth Petitionary would bring the story full circle.
