In this episode, Jess has an insightful discussion with Christian sci-fi author Stephen Burnett. They discuss his book Above the Circle of Earth, the importance of faithful storytelling, and how Christian values can be integrated into science fiction. They also talk about the latest news about Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. They express their disapproval of her choice of casting Aslan with the female voice of Meryl Streep and the significance of honoring the source material in adaptations.

Revelation 21:1-6

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

They talk about his journey of faith, apologetics, and the upcoming Mid-Atlantic Fantasy Convention (MAFCON). They talk about Christian storytelling, defending the faith, and creating family-friendly events that inspire and educate and bond over their love for Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings.

Galatians 2:17-20

17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
