  • Janine Levinson, Jon Lock, Calebass, Russ & The Couch King - 5 in 5 in 5 (Roshambo)
Care, give a hoot, as the owl say.
This is another one of those songs that I started many years ago, maybe 5. Life happens, people get busy, equipment breaks, yet we remained together and persisted through it all. For art, for music, for community, for friendship.
5 songs, with 5 artists, in 5/4 time, in 5 minutes…made over 5 years, lol!
May everyone have friends to make music with!

I am so gratefully for all these musical friends and my opportunities to work with them over the year!
    Pt. 1: Roshambo
    Pt. 2: Steps Backward
    Pt. 3: Scissors Interlude
Pt. 4: Mumbling In The cupboard
    Pt. 5: Owl’s Final Word
***I wrote Pt. 2 and Pt. 4's lyrics using song titles from Calebass' songs and Jon Lock's songs respectively and respectfully.
    Lyrics:
    Pt. 1
Hey-oh hey hi de hi de ho hey ho

All hands in the middle for a game of roshambo

Hey hey ho hey hi de hi de hi de-oh

Rock paper scissors on one two three four five lets go
Slow on the throw bro, strategy like a pro ya know

Winning 4 to O, doin’ it for the dough, doin’ it for the RPS tournament groupies

After crushing finals, team Olimpik going for da gold

Medal wit da combo whoa yo

Going all commando strategy on the rando

    Eeny, meeny, miny moe

Catch your pattern by the toe

    My mother told me
To throw the best one

Droppin’ all my stones like a pop gun

Gettin’ dat paper like a bank run

Scissoring like you need no protection

It’s all fun until theirs too much friction

Some make it complicated with the variations
Hey-oh hey hi de hi de ho hey ho

All hands in the middle for a game of roshambo

Hey hey ho hey hi de hi de hi de-oh

Rock paper scissors on one two three four five lets go
    Pt. 2
The owls taking turns on the night shift
Saw of a pair of eyes
    Swallowed by a cloud
I came upon a black pool
    During the ceremony of spring
    In the alder marsh
Two steps backward on a ballroom dancing night
In the society of the blue bathing urn
The owls taking turns on the night shift
Saw of a pair of eyes
    Swallowed by a cloud
    Pt. 4
    Pumpkin pie and monkey part
Oh woe is the teenage heart
Cats paw and fancy free, oh
    Happy day oh Marie
Ask for nothing sweet cheeks, for
    This will be our year
Still I don’t want to laugh, so
    Cut me a little slack
    Lonesome cowboy Jeff
    At the corner bar
    Mumbling in the cupboard of
The lord I could ignore, from
Time to time I could use
Someone to watch over me, be
    Quiet I wanna be
    In a sentimental mood
    Nibblets from time to time
    At a stone soul picnic
    Gathering clouds, I can’t help it, O’
The captain of the ship of fools
    Pt. 5
    The more we become detached
    From nature
    The less we understand
    Each other
    Enmity's rising
    Species are dying
    I wanna scream
    But I've given up trying

  • One Man Verity Show and the Couch King - Pommes Frites
This is the first time collaborating with one man verity show, I'm so excited!
I chopped up Scotty's guitars. I am so thankful that he was ok with it in the end. Thank you so much Scotty for sending me your super cool guitar stem.
"lo key a freak" sounded like "lo key pommes" frites on the original vocal recording, I thought that was funny, so I rerecorded it. I think it is better this way.
May you all enjoy some good fries if you like them!

    Lyrics:
    Whatever, so
    It don’t matter, no
    Guess I’ll just, go
    Yo
    Always shy
    Try to lie with confidence
    In many ways I
    Be a wall fly
    With incompetence
    Don’t say hi
But I try without the grace of providence
    An awkward guy
Apply my social skills with incontinence
Verbal diarrhea maybe a it’s poem
    I had an idea but whenever I see a girl a it’s a gone
    It’s a predicament y’all
I thought what I said would be neat
    And then sheeit,
    When I heard myself speak
I confirmed I am just freak
I’m low key pommes frites, y’all
You say I’m too full of conceit
But I don’t see it, Then
I see your face when I speak
    And you confirm
    I’m low key pommes frites
    Whatever, so
    It don’t matter, no
    Guess I’ll just, go
    Yo
    Maybe it’s the vibes
I can ascribe to my agitation
    The way she imbibes
    My waves I describe
    It as frustration
    We circumscribe
Try to jibe but without communication
    I can’t transcribe
    My diatribe its mental masturbation
Social dyskinesia call me a jerk
I think of what to say a but when the words betray a it a don’t work
    It’s a predicament y’all
I thought what I said would be neat
    And then sheeit,
    When I heard myself speak
I confirmed I am just freak
I’m low key pommes frites, y’all
You say I’m too full of conceit
But I don’t see it, Then
I see your face when I speak
    And you confirm
    I’m low key pommes frites
    It’s a predicament
    It’s a predicament, y’all
    Whatever, so
    It don’t matter, no
    Guess I’ll just, go
    Yo
    So I remain quiet
My verbal diet keeps me socially slim
    Awkward but a riot
    But only in private
    Cause you confide it
    You don’t like it
    To come in
    Maybe I’ll never swim
But then again I never hit the gym
Lazy for the gravy dry and trim for the win
Call me North Korea they all leave me alone
All the girls are a tortilla from another time zone
    It’s a predicament y’all
I thought what I said would be neat
    And then sheeit,
    when I heard myself speak
I confirmed I am just freak
I’m low key pommes frites, y’all
You say I’m too full of conceit
But I don’t see it, Then
I see your face when I speak
    And you confirm
    I’m low key pommes frites
    It’s a predicament
    It’s a predicament, y’all
    Call me
    Inconsequential
    Hang up
    On my potential
    Dial up
    No longer essential
    Disconnect
    Yet still hang tight
    Off line

  • Heartscore, Stricknice, Bitzone, Wou-Wou & The Wormling, and the Couch King - The Shrike Pt. 4
Wow, this is it, the final song I will be posting for the untitled album Stricknice, Bitzone, Wou-Wou & the Wormling and I have been working on! We posted the first song, “Ghosting Out,” from this set on January 4, 2021. I started this set of 12 songs in 2020, during the pandemic, using demo tracks that Wou-Wou graciously allowed me to use. I can’t, yet totally can, believe that it took 5 years to finish and finally post all the songs. I am still not sure if all 12 songs will be included in the album since the total run time is about 43 minutes and I like albums to be a little closer to 30 minutes. We still also need to decide on the track sequence. Eventually the album will be posted the album on Bandcamp for free.
I have written it many times before and I will write it again, it has been an immense pleasure and honor and blast to work with Sticknice, Bitzone, and Wou-Wou on this set of songs. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity.

    Lyrics:
I don’t wanna have to do this
But I would be terribly remiss
If I just pretended to shoot and miss
Maybe I could find somebody nobody’ll reminisce
Maybe I could find somebody deserving the abyss
The kiss of deaths sweet lips
    The heat of cold bullets
Rationally tearing you from the grips
Of life meaningless in this soulless culture gone amiss
I’ve been hunting these woods since my childhood
Living as any self respecting and god fearing man should
Sovereign and secured in responsibility for one’s own livelihood
The devil wants you to believe in falsehoods
And city life leads to no good
The heathens all had me misunderstood
I wouldn’t want to be with them if I could
It feels like its been me and the bird forever now
And i can’t allow myself to let him down
I have him in my sight
But there is two of ‘em
    Damn it
What am I going to do with ‘em
I’m going to have shoot both of ‘em
    I can’t leave a witness
    Gotta move with swiftness
    At least this
    Male’s a total stud
    And bird will pleased
As he falls with a thud as his chest spews out blood
    And soil turns to mud
This is the right thing to do, isn’t it
After all I made an agreement
    I can’t permit
    Bird to throw a fit
Or It’ll be me my head
    That sits on that wall
And I really wouldn’t want him to leave me
    And be alone again

  • Russell Sinfield and the Couch King -I Like To Sample Old Drums
I started making this piece with the intention of it being a set of songs that could stand on their own as well as being an open collaboration, but then it took on a life of its own, and things just got out of hand from there, lol!
But I still managed to control myself and didn’t add too many samples though, haha!
I was listening to 1985 and 1986 hip hop singles when making this so….
You can download this for free as well as some of the unmixed stems on Bandcamp. The lyrics can also be found on Bandcamp since SC didn’t provide enough space in the song info. I reached my description limit!
Feel free to treat it as an open collaboration if you like. The song list, BPMs, and time signatures are listed below.

  • Bitzone, RS Frawstakwa & the Couch King - Break Down The Bounce
I always wanted to make a sonic companion to the last song Bitzone, Frawstakwa, and I made together, “What Difference Does It Make.” I finally got my chance. This one came together real fast. Bitzone sent me a raw beat, I asked Frawstakwa to kick it off, and then I made some arrangement adjustments and laid down my lyrics and vocals based on Frawstakwa’s. Bitzone then finished it up and bada-boom, gotta move, gotta shake!
Massive thanks to Frawstakwa for bringing the fresh ideas and original verse and chorus vocals. And big thanks to Bitzone for always make the tracks more vivid than I could imagine.
May there always be at least a little time to bounce in your week!

    Intro: Louis Bloomfield
    Lyrics:
    Hold up
    Lemme tell you
    What I’m talking about
    To the beat
    With a breakdown
    That can make you bounce
    Here we are
    Coming through
    With whatever it takes
    Full force
    On these fools
    All up in your face
    Show and prove
    Break it down
    To the drum
    And the bass
    That good old
    One two
    Gotta move
    Gotta shake
    Bada-boom
    Something
    That you can feel
    But wait
    If you could feel
    Anything at all
    Feeling great
    Letting it flow
    Mind body and soul
    On my way
    That’s how it goes
    So the people them know
    See you later
    Hold up
    Lemme tell you
    What I’m talking about
    To the beat
    With a breakdown
    That can make you bounce
I’m just your everyday reverie of an emcee
    You see
I’m but a memory of the way
    You say it be
    On this beat
    You project the street
On the hit of the kick
    The click
Boom, respect it’s the fire of the heat
It’s the sweat dripping from the meat
You expect flowing from that bass
That slow tempo that’s got you feeling
You on the creep, you on the chase
Brace fo the bounce putting you in the some headspace
Race everyone to hear every ounce so tie up yo shoelace
    And let’s go
    Yo, lettin’ the people know
    Hold up
    Lemme tell you
    What I’m talking about
    To the beat
    With a breakdown
    That can make you bounce
    The flow is
    Summoned
    On command
    Dig deep
    Within
    Without a plan
    Improvise
    And
    Ka-blam
    That is called conviction
    Can you understand
    The definition
    What is your religion?
    Damn
    It takes blind faith
To hope that one can trust
    In what is true
    What is real
    For real
    So what it do?
    We are here to
    Be seen
    Be heard
    Be who
    We truly are
    Hold up then
    Please
    Tell us
    Who are you?
    Hold up
    Lemme tell you
    What I’m talking about
    To the beat
    With a breakdown
    That can make you bounce
I got the feeling the bounce is appealing
Now that the ceiling’s been breaked
We got the unwilling to denounce appearing
How it is that they never been waked
Allow the revealing of the fake
Watch out we congealing as we get baked
Take out that sponge cake, make no mistake
It got that spring, there’s no remake
    Can feel the earth quake
    The beat is shaking
    The bass is rumbling
So deep you feel your belly ache
    What’s at stake
    You gotta know
    It’s that flow state
    We on a roll
So slap on the butter baby
    We gravy
    Grab a plate and
    Before you go
    Bounce
    Bounce
    To the boogie
    The bang
    The beat
    Box
    About
    To bring it back
    The breakdown
    For the block
    For my people
    I see you
    Gimme a pound
    Tell me how
    Have you been
    For now
    The breakdown
    I’m here for you
    Hear me loud
    And clear
    We are responsible
    For where we’re
    Bound
    The breakdown
    Heading out
    Gotta beat the crowds
    To get home
    Put my feet up
While I eat on the couch
    The breakdown
    Hold up
    Lemme tell you
    What I’m talking about
    To the beat
    With a breakdown
    That can make you bounce

He got blisters on his fingers and they starting to peel
He got two big blisters and it’s starting to get real
He gotta keep ‘em outta water if he want ’em to heal
Wear them gloves in the shower and when washing yo meal
Uh oh, who had the funk and then let the funk go
Uh oh, yo here we go, the funk is on the loose footloose and deucin’ on the flo’
Dip dip scoodley dip, cool whip all over my chips
Sippin’ on limp shrimp, wimps are the news skool pimps
A plop a glop a top my new flip flop design
A crop a hops and a drop a slop for my swine
Yo we got the flu shot that you got but we caught
    The new-dle two-dle funk crew-dle bug-adoodle
Jibber Jabber don’t stop a hey hey hey a all day
Now come on over I’ll scoot right over and stay while Jon plays
Funky see funky do funky spunky skunky crew

Wow, now that is damn funky, can you smell that bass, whew we, smells like burnt liver on hot summer day, Jon is on Fyre!
Why’s it funky when you haven’t funked for a week and then you start to itch ’n tweek
And your knees be gettin’ soft ’n weak as the pressure reaches to a peak
And a little bit starts to drip and leak
    That’s TMI
He got funk like pumpkins got pie
    Funk like bumpkins get by
    Funk like stuck in deny
All funk like skunk ’n gettin’ high
Funkin’ til the day that we die
Uh oh, who had the funk and then let the funk go
Uh oh, yo here we go, the funk is on the loose footloose and deucin’ on the flo
    The funk
    It be
    Booming
    Out the
Trunk a hunk a junk ol’ clunk a mine
A chunka chunka went the bass and I got a fine
Combine with my divine design, rewind inclined to be funkinsteined
I declined, I tor’ it up in yo face
    You turned up the bass
That’s right, you could hear it all over the place
Funky is as funky does do you has pizazz
Funky is too funky that’s true and we has en masse
Funky is what funky wants how does he slap that bass
We be keep it funky now common shake that azz
Funky like a rusty spike infection on my toe
Funky like a crusty tyke with boogies out the nose
Funky like my musty psych with dusty old pillows
We be make it funky ’n got the stank to show
Will it still be funky if we, what
Spayed it with some poo-pourri, hell yea
Will it still be funky if we, what
Made it from som’in’ all bourgeoisie, hell no
That’s what I been tryin’ to tell ya, the funks gotta be made from something nasty, it’s gotta be inta something kinky, it’s gotta talk all dirty, breath be stankin’ ’n such
Uh oh, who had the funk and then let the funk go
Uh oh, yo here we go, the funk is on the loose footloose and deucin’ on the flo
Yea, so what do you think Jon, you feeling that?
    Oh yea
Alright, alright, alright, yo since you supplied me with that mad funky beat, I figured I’d go all mad scientist and flip what you sent me, and maybe you can lay down some of them golden vocals of yours
    How’s that sound?
    Sounds good
    Well, the Couch King baby
Let’s turn the clock back to ’65
That’s where I like to hide out
It’s the place I really thrive
    Well look out
    Take your time now
This funk moves like a big fat cow
    Yea, the Couch King baby

  • Mayor of Donutville, Stricknice, Bitzone, Wou-Wou & CKP - Something To Believe In
This is the latest song from the album Wou-Wou & the Wormling, Stricknice, Bitzone, and I have been working on. Like all the rest of the songs in the set, this one began during the start of the pandemic and reflects the changes in political perspective that were happening in society, and continue to this day. And, as with the other songs, I started this song with an unreleased demo from Wou-Wou and created a 1 minute outline which I then often passed on to a guest collaborator. When it came time to fully work on the track, I expanded on the original idea, along with the guest collaborator stems, until a full song was arranged. I then passed the bones and organs of the song to Stricknice and Bitzone to add any additional muscles and flesh they believed in until it was finished. I am so blessed to work with Wou-Wou, Bitzone, Stricknice, and all the guest collaborators on this inspired set, that one day will be complete.
May everyone find something authentic to themselves to believe in.

    Lyrics:
    Looking for a new day
Looking for a new way to pray
Looking for a new way to say
I need something to believe in
    Waiting for the next season
    Waiting for a better reason
    Waiting for some cohesions
In my something to believe in
    Searching for another chapter
    Searching for another answer
    Searching for the here after
To give me something to believe in
    Oh oh lord
    You’re no more
    The savior oh
    Praying for a true sign
    Praying for not to resign
    Praying that any divine
Has something for me to believe in
Been out there but it’s freezing
Been out there but it’s displeasing
    Been out there now releasing
My reason for something to believe in
There’s nothing in the wind speaking
There’s nothing in the house creaking
There’s nothing for the sinned seeking
For there’s nothing left to believe in
    Oh oh lord
    You’re no more
    The savior oh
    Oh oh lord
    You’re no more
    The savior oh
    Reborn but still
    Still worn out for real
    Forlorn with no goodwill
    Forgotten like landfill
    Discarded until rotten
    Downtrodden turned to God and
    Abandoned I turn to
The concerns of the spurned few
True or is it not true
It is what we’ve been through
When all has been lost to
    Those others who sin too
    Grew up with a promise
Now there’s thieves up upon us
Asking who can we turn to
To return to us what’s due
    I shouted but nobody
    Listened I doubted
    And then somebody heard
    Just wanted to be devoted
    So a savior got stirred
    For a favor his word
With our promise to help turn
    The truth to be blurred
When will there be a new leader
When will there be a new preacher
When will there be my savior
To tell me what I should believe in
    Looking for a new day
Looking for a new way to pray
Looking for a new way to say
I need something to believe in
    Oh oh lord
    You’re no more
    The savior oh

  • The Weighty Tree, Stricknice, Bitzone, Wou-Wou & the Couch King - The Shrike Pt. 1
This is the lead track from the set of songs that I began with Wou-Wou & the Wormling during the start of the turmoil and chaos brought upon by the pandemic. This is also the first part of four tracks within the album directly based on Wou-Wou’s comic, The Shrike. It has been incredible working with Bitzone and Stricknice throughout the project as well. It is always cool when the everyone in the stag heard works well togehter and brings distinct yet complimentary ideas to the mix. Big thanks also to Weighty Tree for introducing his groovy style of neopsychedelica to the rut!
May everyone be victorious at their turn during the rut.

    Lyrics
    Intro
Several weeks after the events of The Great Scurry, all had returned back to normal in the autumnal forest. Nature has a way of quickly shaking off the traumas of the past and returning to its most basic of desires. You see, all of life yearns to mate and procreate, and while most that experience defeat from the stronger or rejection from those seeking the fitter, muster the determination to get back up again, some take their spurning to heart, as if they were more deserving than nature intended, where it festers and begins to grow a new grotesque life of its own.
    Verse
    Word
    Yo
As antlers crashed with the desperation of lust
And the scent of musk in the air
I couldn’t help but take notice there
Was a sweet smell of autumn
    Carried in the gust
    Of wind
It is a beautiful time of the year
When the does come into estrus
And there is only one thing on my mind
I must get some of that behind
    I find
Times like these to be harbingers
    That linger
I could count times like these on my fingers
    If I didn’t have hooves
And wasn’t crashing to the ground
With the sound of defeated dreams
Of games of hard to get
And multiple days of getting wet
I let the overwhelming excitement of rut
    Get the best of me
And now am crest fallen to see
The Doe that I thought was mine
Walk away with the buck that brought me down to the twines
    Uh

  • Alpha Roots, Jamie R, Jonathan B, Joerxworx, Russ & the Couch King - Somnambulist Break In
    Gary, of Mountain Songs (https://soundcloud.com/mountain-songs)
contacted me about 2 years ago and offered me a baseline stem from an Alpha Roots collaboration he was working on with Joerxworx. About 2 years ago, that is crazy! I, of course, said I would take the stem. I needed to finish some other songs that were in the works before getting to play with Alpha Roots’s baseline. By the time I was ready to connect with the vibe, Russia had invaded Ukraine, unfathomable tragedy had begun, and the world was changing again. My song writing reflected the horror of what was going on. By the time all the stems were gathered, vocals were recorded, and the song was mixed and mastered, another war had broken out and the horror continued.
Massive thanks to Mountain Songs for trusting me with these blessed Alpha Roots stems. So glad Jamie, Jonathan, Joerxworx, and Russ got a chance to work with Alpha Roots again. Alpha Roots lives on.
And the song is ready just in time for Halloween!

Sleep walker doing bidding in the night
Night stalker, half asleep, right now, while you fright, wow
Sleep walker hypnotized prowler by the moon
Moon shocker, mindless rocker, from the tomb eww
    Dr. Caligari caught cha sleepin’
    Day dreamin’ though you woke
Never thought what you were thinkin’
Now you only speakin’ what he spoke
    It’s a somnambulist break in
    Break in
Gonna stab them in the bed now
    It’s a somnambulist break in
    Break in
    Fillin’ ‘em with dread ya
Sleep walker doing bidding in the night
Night stalker, half asleep right now, while you fright, wow
Sleep walker hypnotized prowler by the moon
Moon shocker, mindless rocker, from the tomb eww
    Dr. Caligari gonna open
    The coffin where you’ll rest
    On his order you awaken
Now you answerin’ without questionin’ his behest
    It’s a somnambulist break in
    Break in
Gonna stab them in the bed now
    It’s a somnambulist break in
Sleep walker doing bidding in the night
Night stalker, half asleep right now, while you fright, wow

Moon shocker, mindless rocker, from the tomb eww
    Dr. Caligari caught cha sleepin’
    Day dreamin’ though you woke
In the shadows see you creeping
His knife hidden inside his cloak
    It’s a somnambulist break in
    Break in
