And if you still have a huge amount of debt or just a big goal you want to tackle when that happens, you can discourage. And in some cases, understandably depressed.

It’s normal.

Mind the Gap &  Achieve Financial Independence Faster

As we wrap this year up, I’m going over the interviews we’ve had, pulling out threads that connect some of guests.

One huge thread I’ve heard repeated is that personal finance nugget:

Spend less than you earn.

With the couples who achieved big goals, they’ve honed in on building that gap between they they earned and what they spent.

It comes down to two strategies: frugality and going income.

Frugality and entrepreneurship are powerful tools when used together can build your family’s finances dramatically. Interestingly, the terms frugality and entrepreneurship are a bit misunderstood.

Helping Couples with Money

I started Couple Money because I wanted to have a safe space to discuss not only finances like how to get out of debt, invest smarter, and build wealth, but also the very deeply personal part of marriage. You know,

* how do you create a budget that both of you are happy with,

* deciding if one of you can stay or work from home with the kids.

Money isn’t the most important thing, but it can really mess up a marriage.

When I began, there weren’t many places that dove into both sides.

Millennials Money Mistakes and Wins

It seems people love to jump on millennials and how bad they are with their finances.

Today I want to talk to someone who is bucking the trend. Grant is the creator of Millennial Money. When he was out of college he only had a couple bucks in his bank account. He decided to do something about it, (including reading 300 personal finance books).

We’ll get into more of the details in the interview, but started saving at least 25% of what he made, started a business, and he invested. His efforts paid off and he became financial independent at the age of 30.

In this interview he shares three money mistakes he and other millennials make and offer some tips on how turn things around.

Year End Money Review

How often do you two review your money? We have a monthly check-up as a part of our money dates just to make sure things are alright.

With the year winding down, my husband and I are reviewed our numbers for 2016.

It’s a way for us to not only see how things went with our money, but it’s gives us a chance to start brainstorming on how we can make the next year better.

When we were in thick of our dump our car loan phase we were tight with our expenses to speed up the pay off date. I’d even share them on the site.
