Mom to 2nd and 6th grade girls, and Executive Consultant for Carter Baldwin, Dr. Andrea Ramirez, shares her wisdom for helping make the back-to-school experience successful and meaningful, especially as a traveling executive without family living nearby.
- Cast a vision with the girls about doing their very best in school as a means of loving God
- Have traditions that signify the beginning of the new year
- Speak blessing over the girls
- Prepare for the year ahead of time to inspire them and talk about their concerns
- Talk and pray each night about their experiences and learnings
- Affirm their strengths and uniquenesses
- Review the week ahead of time with your kids
- Use technology to connect daily when traveling
- Invite your kids into your work experiences and have them travel with you
- Have rules and boundaries identified for traveling
- Create community where you live, especially if you don't have family living nearby
- Have weekly planning meetings with your spouse
- Identify where you need to say no so that you can stay committed to your family
- Let go of the expectations of work-life balance in seasons where it is simply not possible
- Look for opportunities to connect, even if it's a short phone call, or FaceTime, or connecting in the work parking lot for a few minutes
- Use checklists and have regular established routines
Andrea's husband, Fabian Ramirez, speaks at schools across the country about bullying and substance abuse – if you're interested in having him come to your kid's school, you can reach out to him through his website.
Also, their 6th grader wrote a book about kindness - check it out here.
