Today's episode of Courage Permission Slip is a treat. Today, Kea talks to Michael D. McCarty who is truly a profile in courage. Michael is a professional storyteller who has been telling stories and teaching storytelling around the world for nearly 30 years. Since 2014, Michael has worked in California prisons as part of the Arts in Corrections program teaching inmates how to find, develop, and tell their stories. He is also a former Black Panther who worked closely with Fred Hampton until his murder and was a United States Army martial arts instructor.
During this conversation, Michael talks about:
- Standing up for what's right and being willing to accept the consequences
- How the blowback from taking a stand can put your life on a completely different path—one that's better than you could imagine
- Being in a constant state of permission-giving
- The importance of listening to your own voice
