In this episode, I get really vulnerable and discuss the courage to stop hiding. I hid certain parts of myself for a long time because I was scared. When you expose the fear, there's freedom, joy, and expansion on the other side. One part of the work that I do as a coach is helping people to stop hiding, to be themselves, and to live their truth. When you are yourself, great things happen.

In this episode, I have a conversation with Je'Von. Je' Von the is Founder of The Rooted Man; a men's coaching program designed to help men connect to their soul and live more in alignment with their purpose and mission. Je'Von discusses being fed up, leaving a career on Wall Street, and stepping into the unknown. He knew that he needed a change and could no longer ignore his calling. After turning away from my child-hood dream of playing professional football; having made it to the division 1 level, I pursued a career that seemed glamorizing and fulfilling. This career pursuit landed me on Wall Street for 4 years. I soon realized the career I had chosen was glamorous, yet not fulfilling.  As I began further along this journey to find my purpose, I gained the wisdom that I needed to get closer to this calling by connecting to where it was coming from. This realization inspired me to explore the spiritual worlds through studies of all religion, developing a meditation practice, travel, and learning to live from my intuition. It became apparent that this calling was not unique to me and that it was actually the essence of life... and that all of us are called to step into greatness and live extraordinary lives filled with health, happiness, contribution, and fulfillment. It was a joyous moment when my life was a reflection of this calling. In this episode, I have a conversation with Jared Harding.  Jared shares one of his most courageous moments: Battling grief and depression after his wife had multiple miscarriages.  He discusses not wanting to look weak, not knowing how to communicate, and getting to a point where he realized he had to get help.  He had to allow himself to break.  

He realized that he was not living life the way he wanted to, wasn't making the connections he wanted to, was being distant, and what was once natural for him was now difficult.  Fear of telling people about the miscarriages, fear of being found out, of being seen as weak, and as a failure.  He thought people wouldn't understand.  He was trying to be strong and he finally allowed himself to break.

Jared also shares for the first time, his passion and the impact he wants to make in the mental health space.  He stands up because now is the time, it's his time to use his voice - and this is the first step for him to move forward with his mission.  I'm honored that he chose to do that with me, here.  He discusses why mental health and suicide awareness are important to him and he reminds us that the people that are probably hurting the most are the ones that aren't able to say it.   

Jared is an Architect in the Tech Industry, working for iShift and hoping that his voice will lead others to ask for help and start discussions that will positively impact the people and community around him.

Some people see failure as a negative or as a deficit.  The truth is, failure is the fastest way to learn, expand, and grow.  It’s a really simple concept that's really hard to do.  

“Failed it” is a series of episodes dedicated to celebrating one thing. Failure. I believe the highest levels of growth, expansion, and freedom come as a result of failure.  They’re all waiting on the other side of fear.  

I created failed it, from conversations with all of my guests this season.  They were asked to recall a failure they experienced in the past, what they learned from it, and how they grew and expanded as a result.

Last up is my baby brother Forest Melton.  In his episode, he discussed the struggle of a breakup and a courageous conversation he had with our Dad.

Brene Brown talks about “Couraging” in one of her talks.  “Couraging” is how to grow your own courage.  It’s a habit of repeatedly being courageous.  It’s a way of dealing with uncertainty and risk head-on.  By not shying away from the uncomfortable situations, and instead, using your voice and standing up especially when you’re not sure what will happen as a result.

This episode is titled “Couraging.”

This episode is focused on the answer to one question.  That question is, “What advice would you give anyone who wants to be more courageous in their own lives?”  I’ve taken all of the conversations I’ve had with my guests this season and pulled out the dialogue for that single question.
