  • The Body
The Church is often described as the body of Christ. Just like the parts of a body, we are united, working together and supporting one another. Yet, each of us is unique, with different gifts and abilities. This uniqueness can sometimes lead us to question our place or compare ourselves to others. We're tempted to wonder if we truly belong. But that's not how it should be. Paul reminds us that in Christ, our differences fade away, and we are one. The body can't function properly if any part isn't fulfilling its role. Each of us has a purpose, and when we fall short, God doesn't receive the full honor, glory, and praise He deserves. You have a special purpose. How will you use your gifts in this world to glorify God?

  • Confession
Death by hypothermia is insidious. In the latter stages, your body starts to cooperate with the hypothermia, eventually leading to death. Sin is similar. It numbs your senses and poisons your soul. Through guilt and shame, sin convinces you that you are not worthy of love and acceptance. Shame pushes you away from community with God and others—the very things that can heal and restore you. Shame dies in the context of loving community. The treatment for sin is stripped-down vulnerability through confession—with yourself, with God, and with trusted community. Don't let sin convince you to participate in your own isolation and demise. Walk into the light. Expose your sin. Find healing, forgiveness, love, and acceptance through the spiritual practice of confession.

  • Baptism and Remembrance
God is a masterful storyteller, weaving together history, characters, and elements to create an intricate and rich storyline. We see this in today's account of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus. Baptism was originally an ancient Hebrew practice to prepare for sacrifice. However, John repurposed it for the repentance of sin. John baptizing Jesus at that specific time and place was no coincidence. The location and symbolism recall God's faithfulness and humanity's redemption throughout human history. Jesus renews the story—offering God's promise to us. Through baptism, God promises deliverance, love, life, and purpose. Remember your baptism.

  • Caring for the Imprisoned
As faithful Christians, we're instructed to love others, offer hospitality to strangers, and remember those in prison as part of our spiritual practices. Yet, remembering those in prison isn't something most of us are used to doing. We might feel more comfortable focusing on those imprisoned unjustly or who are repentant, but the Bible doesn't make these distinctions. Scripture calls us to full solidarity with those in prison, inviting us to pray with a desire for relationship. We share a common human need for healing and restoration through Jesus. If you feel called, there are missions where you can visit and minister to prisoners. But at the very least, we should remember them in our daily prayers, asking for their restoration and relationship with Jesus.

  • Worship
The power of music is incredibly real, especially as it helps us memorize and connect with people and experiences. When we worship together through song, we deeply connect with the message of Jesus. This message resonates, takes hold, and dwells within us through the experience of worship. We sing Psalms—songs about God, hymns—songs to God, and songs of the Spirit—those that arise within us when the Holy Spirit meets us. These songs teach us about our faith and encourage us to remain obedient. When these worship songs are on our lips, they become ingrained in our hearts, powerfully sustaining us even in the darkest times.
