Like our Good Shepherd, we should:
I. Provide (physical and spiritual )
II. Protect (physical and spiritual )
III. Be strong
IV. Lead from fullness
A few questions to think about providing:
1. What kind of spiritual nourishment are you providing for your family?
2. When was the last time you read scripture to them?
A few questions to think about protecting:
3. Are you more prepared to use a firearm than confront false teaching in your home?
4. Are you spiritually watchful of those in your charge, like Job?
A few questions to think about your strength:
5. When things heat up, are you prone to responding with strength and grace, or anger and silence?
6. Would your wife and kids describe you as having a safe and steady presence, or as being unpredictable?
And a few questions to consider whether you are leading from fullness?
7. What’s filling your “cup?” Is it the societal defaults of social media feeds and spectator sports, or the word of God?
8. If you were a plant, what sort of “fruit” (if any) would grow on your branches? If the honest answer is “none. I’m a thornbush,” or “sick, malnourished apples,”
a. What are you going to do about it?
b. Go have lunch and get back to the same pattern?
c. Or, pray that the Holy Spirit will empower and guide you as you take steps toward a sustainable, positive change in your spiritual life?
