Abraham has made a mess of his life over and over again in spite of God's purpose and plan for his life. But God isn't done with him. See how God creates multiple new beginnings for Abraham and those around him in chapter 21. As we look at what happens to Lot and Abraham immediately after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, we have to assess what we do when we have had a major traumatic event in our life. Do we run to God or away? Toward Christian community or isolation? Today we explore the consequences of the choices we make when faced with a traumatic event. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah...was it necessary? What do we learn about how sin pollutes us from this passage? Does God have an escape plan for us to get us out of sin? What an appropriate question for all of us! Whether we are asking God for a miracle in our lives physically or if we are questioning God's grace or judgement, the question is a glaring challenge. See how Sarah and Abram respond to God answering prayer in his timing. For 14 years, God is silent toward Abram as he has everything he could want including an heir. But God isn't done with Abram. Why does he give him a new name, a new covenant, and a new sign to the covenant? God can make something beautiful out of our mistakes. Abram was promised a son. But was it up to him to make it happen? How often do we run toward "God's will" when in reality we are running away from God?
